!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The word Libertarian in Libertarian Party holds it back. People think, what? We need roads! We need police! etc. but they don't think this with the Reform Party. No, they think, "hmm, yes reform is good." It's not controversial. The RP also has a history in the US, it was very successful with Ross Perot, so a comeback would garner media attention.
We could take it over and open it up to everyone.
proposal:
1. we form a discussion group, so that we can talk about this further
2. we all become members and we change the bylaws
3. we continue to communicate and we form a caucus within the party to help grow the party
4. we OWN the party
It's small, after Ross Perot's run, the party collapsed into obscurity, lets' take it NOW!
pm me or reply
YEAH!!!!!

Yeah, that's my argument. There's too much stigma attached to the word libertarian which makes it harder for it to grow. Also, many of its own members hold it back, you need to take a dumb oath when you join.

Why not take it over, then rename it. The "New Republican Party."
After all, RP wanted to fix up the republican party, well, there ya go.

The only problem I see is that the Reform party is so minuscule, it would be like starting a party from scratch. Well it would be starting from scratch since we would be changing the reform party.. So you have to consider if starting a party from scratch is in our best interests, would we only focus on local government or what..

Why not just call it the "new conservative party", then we can dub it the neocon party for short.
Nah, I vote we go with the reform party. Liberty party sounds too much like the libertarian party.
How about the Leave Me Alone Party?
The name only appeals to fellows like us, you must keep the sheep and collectivist in mind, they wouldn't like that name.

This may be worth investigating. It would be almost like starting from ground zero, but the little party might retain ballot access in a couple states. And whatever happens, do NOT rename it "libertarian" or "republican" anything! Both of these carry heavy stigmas for obvious reasons. The Reform Party name is just fine as it is. This is the party Ross Perot got 9% under in 1996. And the party Jesse Ventura and other more local candidates were elected to office on.
I'm not sure what's left of them for composition these days, but a "takeover" might not be as hard as it seems. Considering they supported both Perot and Buchanan, both of whom have many supporters who came over to Ron Paul this year, the remaining RP members would probably welcome us with open arms. Yeah, they supported Nader in 2004, but most likely because they saw him as an independent candidate with the best shot at getting enough votes to keep their ballot access in several states.
Also, in the skirmishes between Barr and Baldwin, the CP and the LP, the Reform Party could really serve as neutral ground. Until it starts endorsing any candidates that would rival either Libertarian or Constitution Party guys, I think it would be welcomed. If the GOP takeover effort fails, maybe a Ron Paul supporter dominated Reform Party can even serve as the vehicle for uniting the LP, CP and other minor parties.
