It's confirmed: Mike Gravel will be a speaker at the Revolution March on July 12.

There will also be a group of National Initiative (http://www.ni4d.us) and Mike Gravel supporters meeting up beforehand.

If you want to be informed to the location of the meetup, just send me a private message with your email address in it, and I'll be sending out an email to a list of Gravel supporters when we decide on where we will be meeting up.

Thanks,
Ross

I agree wholeheartedly BUT I think its great that we have people from all over the political spectrum coming together for the cause of liberty. We can work out all the differences after we get the country back.

The one thing that gives me great respect for Gravel is that he ended the military draft :) If that wasn't a huge step in the right direction to restoring out liberties I don't know what was.

It's funny that the same things people say to me about Ron Paul in the "real world" (off-line, I mean), are the same things people on this forum say about Mike Gravel.

Philosophical differences will always be a part of the human experience, liberty may not unless we support those who fight for it. Kucinich and Gravel are two examples of people I have philosophical differences with, but I also recognize that they ARE fighters for liberty. So I'm willing to set it aside when the common cause is in need.

Gravel wants a direct democracy.

Democracy and liberty are mutually exclusive.

Gravel is not for liberty

That could be argued, brandonyates, but this isn't really the place to do it.

However, I'd say Gravel has done a lot to further liberty (ending the draft, for example), and he's an honest man worth listening to.

Dude, this is a forum called liberty forest. If this isn't the place to argue about the philosophy of liberty, then where is?

I agree. Gravel is a good guy. I'm just saying he doesn't always have the best ideas.

Put up a thread in "General Politics" if you really want to. I just wanted to inform people about Gravel speaking with this thread.

These Ni4D discussions can get pretty ugly...

Why can't you let him say what he wants to say? Power to the people - give peace a chance!

The first time I heard of Mike Gravel was at the start of my ride when I mentioned on video that RP was the only "honest" politician. Someone commented that that was not true and mentioned MG. The more I heard about him the more I had to agree that my statement was too broad a brush and there were other honest politicians. MG is one of them.

I am glad he is coming to the March and I thank those with the courage and foresight to invite him. We need this movement to be as BIG a tent as possible for it to succeed.

My main motivation in re-joining society was the chance to promote integrity in Govt. While I am, idealogically, a traditional conservative, I welcome any poiltician who puts integrity above all. We will always have a wide spectrum in this country and that is a good thing. We can debate policy forever, how about we promote and restore integrity first, and give those who have it the respect they deserve, regardless of what side of the tent they sit

and rossl is right about this being the wrong thread/sub-forum to discuss specific policies...

I'd rather hear Scott McClellan.

Gravel is an opportunistic panderer. His only claim to fame for me is his Iraq War stand.

I'd boo him.

Agreed Gravel seems to want to leach off of RP's fan base.

Gravel is for civil liberty, and economic communism. Therefore he is 50% liberty/50 socialist.

We can banter about that after we get our country back and we need as many people to help us with this as possible.
Ron Paul people need to stop being so narrow in their approach to other people's political philosophies. Everyone is different and most people mean well. Welcome them with open arms and then try to convert them. Don't just shut them out all together. That is only a sure fire way to make sure our base continues shrinking.

Where did you get this information? Gravel is not in the line up for the rally. I should know, I'm in charge of it. We are possibly going to have him speak at the assembly, but that is still in the works.

You answered the question in your first sentence. ''Getting our country back''

You must understand that we are a ways off in achieving this, and we need people on board RIGHT now who know the message. Someone like Gravel would only dilute the message and cause confusion.

We have to stay on target. And we can only do that with people who ''get it'' and can lead with the message in its purest form. IF Gravel came out and said he read Ron's book and said he had an epiphany, and now embraces the Revolution, i might say 'hell ya'...congrats on taking the red pill!..until then...

Are you proposing we open the tent to the KKK, or other radical fringe groups? NOT!..

WTF!!! KKK??? What the hell are you talking about? Why don't you add the NAZIs and Reptilians to further this stupid attack?

And how the hell do you think we will be able to move forward and advance our cause by preaching to the choir? Purest form, my ass! Are you telling us that you think the only ones who can further this cause is people who agree 100% with every single personal opinion of RP. That would be a small tent indeed.

Thank you. You get it. I try and be friends with everyone, show them that I am not a crazy person through kindness and so forth. I find common ground and then I try to covert them over. Common sense. I think we all do this - or should.
We are not a cult.

Have you ever heard of Take Back Kentucky?
They are a loose network of liberty minded groups, some are Ron Paul supporters, some are not but when there is a specific liberty minded issue to come to the forefront they all band together. This works really well for Kentucky. They all don't have to agree on everything and can choose what issues they want to support.
They succeed because they include everyone.

JK/SEA - No, I am not saying we open the movement to radical fringe groups, I am saying that we will become the radical fringe group if we don't aim to include more people.

Relax. First off, i have on many occaisions been in discussions this election cycle with people who tell me ''i like Ron Paul..BUT, i don't like( this or that) in what he says''..You either ''get it'' or you don't. I stay on target and spread his message, which by the way is pretty clear. So, yes, i truly believe you have to have people who are not 'temporary' supporters, and bail out when the going gets rough, like we have now, and want to dilute the message with a socialist agenda or 'whatever' . This is how we attract new converts. Do not waiver, do not bend. When you do that, it will be the end of this movement, like a cancer on a dying patient.

You want to quit? I don't and won't. I'm in 100%.

We are building a movement and going forward with Ron's message. Guys like Gravel are not welcome until he turns his thought processes around.

my 2 cents.

Deborah, it was Mike Gravel that said he would be speaking.

I'm really disappointed that he isn't, as are many others.

It's unfortunate that a few elitists are trying to control the Revolution as if their standards were the ones that everyone should obey.
