Depending on who you ask, RFID technology is either the "Mark of the Beast", or a global panacea destined to rescue the grocery stores and Walmarts of the world from shoplifting. But any good geek knows that RFID is nothing more than tiny microchips powered by RF induction that store and broadcast a small bit of data. Want to learn more? Rather than rip apart your passport you can pick up this nifty RFID Experimentation Kit with over a dozen types of RFID tags, a USB based RFID reader and instructions for tons of insidious RFID projects. You even get a cool bio-implantable type of RFID Tag which you should never ever load into a blowgun and implant in any of your coworkers because it's not surgically sterilized.

Important Note:
This kit is for the tinkering type of geek. While it's relatively easy to get the software installed and the USB RFID Reader recognizing tags, to do more cool applications you will need some technical aptitude.

So if you are carrying all of those chips, which one will they find if they are looking for just one of them?

"A shadowy character crouches unseen in the bushes. He doesn't have a gun or a knife, but he has a laptop. He watches as his prey walks by. Invisible radio waves emitting from the credit-card in his wallet get picked up by the laptop, recorded, and saved onto a cloned card. For all intents and purposes, this man becomes you, and has decided to go shopping.

"Or maybe he picked up the passkey that lets you into your office building. With ease, he can now walk into your secure office building and steal your company's equipment. The next morning, security guards are waiting in your cube to have a chat.

"The nightmare scenario was brought forth recently - a bomb lies waiting in a garbage can. Sensitive electronics read the identification cards and passports of the people who walk by, waiting until somebody of your nationality comes close..."

Gotta love technology. They come up with a new way to surveil and control us. They sell us on it by describing how safe and secure it will make us. They do such a good job describing it's advantages that by the time we bite and get hooked and say, go ahead, the criminal element has figured out a dozen ways to use it against us.

They sold us credit cards because of muggers. Now with identity theft we don't even have to leave the house to get mugged, and cash is becoming an endangered species. Soon we not only won't have any means of exchange but barter for the underground economy, you'll have to have a license and collect sales tax to have a garage sale.

Gotta love progress...
