Do we?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Sense_%28pamphlet%29

Thomas Paine convinced people that independence was the right way to go. How about something for now? Liberty!

Then again, Thomas Paine also said: "Time makes more converts than reason." - that one, I'm sure, you guys have learned already.

know what is ironic?

A far greater reason for a general uprising, than the Tea and Stamp Act, was the taking away of the paper money.

not gonna source it. dig it up!

What's wrong with the old one?

From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Sense_%28pamphlet%29):

I. Of the Origin and Design of Government in general, with concise Remarks on the English Conflict.

II. Of Monarchy and Hereditary Succession.

III. Thoughts on the present State of American Affairs.

IV. Of the present Ability of America, with some miscellaneous Reflections.

English Conflict? Monarchy? present State (Eighteenth Century, much?)

I just think we need something about the state of modern America, maybe a conflict with our own government, since I don't think one currently exists with England.

not gonna source it. dig it up!

But yeah, that is kind of funny.

No, I don't even think I looked in that thread.

What I think we need is this.

Don't we already have Meetup groups? And RonPaul.com?

I don't see the point of having something replicate the function of something that already exists *cough* Department of Education *cough* :D.

But would there be another function? The Wikipedia article didn't seem like it fully explained "Committees of Correspondence."

I was actually thinking about doing this since I have nothing better to do, being on summer break. I think I'll start up this week. I'll probably won't ever finish, but maybe I'll finally finish something of this variety that I start.

We DO need a new rendition of Common Sense. But it needs to be presented in contemporary terms with a clear understanding of a message directed toward the recipients.

Bluntly, it needs to be on video... probably presented by a well known celebrity with no strong negatives... someone trusted. Few Americans do any serious reading any longer and reaching the masses in the 18th century is very different from today.

It should also be done using the standard marketing techniques of today to get and hold peoples attentions. It needs to relate directly to the "wants, needs and desires" of the target market. This is the sort of thing the *official* campaign should have been doing during the campaign. It was not and "the message" was lost in all the exoteric writings and rambling speeches.

We DO need a "Common Sense 2008" and it needs to be updated to meet today's target audience and address them in a manner to get and hold their attention. More than a single piece; it should be a Common Sense approach to enlightening and connecting with the voters so they can see the tangible benefits to them. That means WE need to adopt a common sense approach to Marketing “the message” of freedom contained in our Constitution.

Common Sense is a wonderful pamphlet... we need a new presentation of this type of message to reach all Americans... we need to "explain it in terms they will understand" and that means a slick video... and the proven techniques of Mass Marketing. I know some are horrified by this notion… that we sell freedom like a box of soap… but it is the reality of our times. Without a Common Sense approach (effective copywriting and marketing) to presenting all aspects of "the message" or we will never win over the intended audience.

Common Sense was a pamphlet, so I was thinking more of a pamphlet - bit shorter than Dr. Paul's book.

Well that pamphlet is about 50 pages long.

Manifesto is the shortest political book I've read, but its by far the most effective.

That could work. About 25 pages, according to Microsoft Word - with size 12 font.

I was thinking something about Liberty in general, and not just foreign policy.
