Conley, a North Myrtle Beach engineer, said he is a former Republican who became a Democrat out of frustration with trade and immigration policies and the Iraq invasion. He voted for Ron Paul in the presidential primary, says conservative positions on social policies are not owned solely by Republicans and opposes abortion rights and gay marriage.

Well, what's the consensus? He's decided to run as a Democrat, but he voted for Ron Paul.

It might be effective because Republicans are so unpopular right now.

He's a Ron Paul Democrat

At this point my only allegience is to liberty. If this guy supports the CFL mission I'm all for him and will support him regardless of party affiliation. He has a rough road ahead against Lindsey Graham who has a few million to his $900.00 or so.

With Conley offering an actual CHOICE and difference from his opponent unlike most Democrats, he'll probably do well.

We need to make sure he's well funded. He's a Ron Paul Senate Nomanee -- just not the one we were expecting.

Anyone have his opinions on "amnesty?"

It's not that hard to find democrats in SC that are more conservative than Graham ;)

I'm also torn between Conley and McBride (but McBride is still trying to get the signatures to get on the ballot)

Isn't Conley basically a Ron Paul Democrat while McBride is third party?

Conley's the obvious choice if his principles are small government.

His website doesn't say anything about illegal immigration other than he wants to "fix it"

Ted Kennedy wants to fix it. We don't know what that means.

Look at the video minutes 4 through 8. He attacks Graham for being pro-amnesty, and when he is asked what he would do about the 12-15 million illegal immigrants who are here already, he says he wants to secure the border and have enforcement in the workplace.
