They are trying. It is called "Trusted Computing" and is embedded in newer chips.

That's why I won't switch to Vista, because it already has that capability built in. I won't switch til the good team of hackers crack it, so they have no control. Until then I'll use Windows XP Pro, and soon when I get my new laptop, Ubuntu Linux.
