Today is the big day. The election is tomorrow.

We need volunteers to make live calls today to turn out the vote.

Please call 240 782-0099 to get your list.

Please send me to Congress.

We saw a 2% voter turnout for Amit Singh. Amit lost be only 650 votes. He would have won if you had cared enough to make a few calls.

We expect a similar small turnout. You can make the difference by calling Republican and independent voters for my campaign today.

In liberty,

Peter James

Peter,

As a fellow candidate in Maryland from District 2 I am happy to help. I have sent e-mail and left a VM.

Others, if you could spare and hour or two to help Peter today, we could have a nice surprise waiting for us on Wednesday.

Those are the links for the two counties. One isn't listing any results until later, but the other one is starting to list results and it doesn't look good for Peter James.

It's official: another one bites the dust:

Looks like James gets to beat his against the wall again in November though.

Here are the 2006 general election results.

Candidates for Representative in Congress in Congressional District 04 (Vote for one)

Michael Moshe Starkman 32,792 (18.6%) Republican
Albert R. Wynn(Won) democrat 141,897 (80.7%)

The woman who beat James today WILL WIN THE GENERAL ELECTION!!!

It's a democratic district. Is that not obvious?

I don't know when people will wise up here and quit trying to win congressional seats. It is just going to be one after another down the tubes. Maybe BJ but that would be a miracle.

SUPPORT LOCAL CANDIDATES FOLKS!!!

quit throwing yoru money down the tubes on the nonwinnable congressional races.
I know that everyone wants to win one and I would too. But it aint happening until we get local candidates in which are eaisier to win. just my 2 cents and of course everyone has the right to donate to whomever. My money is going local.

Yes there will be. The election today was to finish Al Wynn's term when he was elected in 2006. After losing his primary to Donna Edwards, he found another employer and quit Congress before his term ran out. Edwards will serve out the rest of the year.

You probably shouldn't call others "doofus" if you don't know the facts yourself. Click on the link provided by rodo above to verify.

As a voter in MD-4 I can tell you that this does not surprise me one bit. Even I find myself hesitant to vote James (and regretful for voting for James in the Primary) after seeing the kind of posts he makes here and getting some of his mailings which compares Edwards to Castro and Kim Jong-Il with her picture between the two with a quote under the picture saying "Stop Socialist Donna". Instead of name calling, maybe he should have done something more constructive like point out her faults in policies instead of comparing her to "bad guys". There were two other RP republicans running for office in the primary this year in our district and Im wishing I picked one of them instead.

Hm. What do you mean by "local?"

I'm a Maryland person who's supporting our local candidates and the one that I'm helping the most (Collins Bailey) is going against the House Majority Leader.

Our country is on life-support. Hell, it's probably already clinically dead. You know a lot of Ron Paul fans don't like FDR, but IMO the Congress of his time deserves as much (and maybe more) of the blame than him. It simply carried out his plans, when it was under no compulsion to do so. We need to get our people in, so we can stop Obama or Mccain or whoever in their tracks.

I'm campaigning so that "no chance" turns into "a little chance" to "maybe" to "looking good." :)

First of all thanks ZADROCK for clearing up the question on the second election!!

As for your questions about working locally for Collins Bailey. I looked up past election results on the Maryland site:

http://elections.state.md.us/elections/2006/results/general/congressional_district_05.html (http://elections.state.md.us/elections/2006/results/general/congressional_district_05.html)

As you can see Steny Hoyer won handily in 2006 with 82% of the vote.

( you can do your research and look at results for the other two districts where Hargadon and Matthews are running and see for yourself what chances they have.)

Let me define what I mean by local. Not congress, not state wide. Local is a mayor, a state house representative, a state senator, a city council person, a county commissioner, a dogcatcher, sheriff, etc.

While I applaud you for volunteering and you can pick up some good skills for future campaigns my sense is that there will be no victory in this congressional race in November. Unless Steny Hoyer dies, or has some big scandal this district is not winnable.

No offense meant to anyone and I’m sure Bailey is a great person and would be a good congressperson but my advice is go into this understanding that there will be no victory and that your time and money here could possibly of been spent on an RP candidate running for city council or state house of representatives who possibly could win if they “Targeted” a district with potential to win.

There is a strategy that says that a person can lose the first time but gain recognition and be placed to be the candidate when the incumbent retires or dies.
Frankly I think that is what Chris Pedan’s strategy is against RP in his CD. Knowing that RP can not continue to run forever and so Pedan will be the obvious choice to replace him when he retires. But remember in this case it is in a district that is basically GOP so that whoever is the GOP candidate will probably win in the future.

But in the case of the 5th district in Maryland I can easily see that this is a democratic district. And in presidential years the turnout is even that much higher and remember that Obama is going to have huge coattails and bring out lots of voters who will naturally follow the democratic tickets for most other positions. So it will be that much harder for a GOP candidate to win this year.

My sense is that to keep this going we need to support local candidates and work our way up. Local races are more possible to win.

We keep sending thousands of dollars to congressional campaigns when these dollars could have been spread around to good RP candidates running for local office that can win. Sending $500,000 to Murray, Vern, and others that lost horribly could have gotten us 5K in 100 local races where the money would be the difference between winning and losing.

I hope that RP is going to giving some of the 4 million to these worthy candidates however if not then I urge everyone to hold off and give whatever you can to local candidates directly. That is what I plan to do. (But only after analysing whether the candidate has a chance to win)

What are we going to be looking for on November 4th? Wouldn't it be nice to have reports all over the country of mayors, state reps, state senators, city council members etc winning races and starting a base that we can grow and groom to then take higher office later when they have some experience and name recognition?

Also what about gaining election campaign experience? We have no local elected officials so how do we get people the nitty gritty experience needed to win elections? I can assure you gaining experience on a winning campaign is more gratifying than on a losing one.
Campaigns are won with good hardworking presentable candidates most importantly but then also with organization and the hard work of many volunteers.

Door Knocks, literature drops, lawn signs, voter registration, phone banks and local fundraising.

Who has ever attended a door knock? Would you? If not then you can send all the money you want but money alone does not win.

We are not going to do this with armed revolt. Lets do it at the ballot box.

Keep your money and give it to local candidates that can use it to win local elections. Or at least make an informed decision for a congressional candidate and go check out the secretary of states web site or whatever source your state has for past election returns to see if there is a chance to win.

If you see an RP candidate running against a 10 term democratic incumbent who won in 2006 with 70% of the vote in the general election then you can pretty much say that this RP candidate will not win. When you find one running in an open seat or against someone who won with 55% of the vote last time then there is a chance to win.

Maybe it’s fine to run anyway to gain experience and frankly I knew when I gave to RP that he would not win but did so for the revolution so I can not say it is totally for naught.

However our funds are limited from what I have seen. So my only point is that we have to make choices. Sure I would love to see us elect people to congress.
But since that is so difficult my opinion is start small and build a base.
Almost every successful congressperson held lower office before being elected. That is how it works.

Also the RNC and DNC and any political PAC will analyse races before donating. They look at the chances to win and only give money where they see the potential to win. They “Target” races.

We do not “Target” races from what I can see.

The political hacks love to see us running all over the place supporting people that have not a chance in hell of winning. It splits us up and ensures that we will have no power and that we will continue to be demoralized as we see the election returns come in.
BJ so far has been best shot we have had but winning the general election is another story.

I would be excited to see on election night in November us winning across the country 20 mayors, 30 state house of representatives, 15 state senators, 20 dogcatchers, 50 city council members etc.

That to me would be more important than any one congressperson elected.

Just MHO and I hate to be negative just trying to be realistic.

That's not really fair! There was no Republican running that year!! :p

Here's an election history on the bottom of this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steny_Hoyer

No offense taken. You're right that's it's a challenge, but I wouldn't say it's no chance. IMO when there's serious economic problems, a person who knows how to reach the public is always a threat to win (or at least a big scare to the system *grin*).

All the things you listed (door knocks, etc), we're doing or they're in the works. Collins has also held a local office for over 16 years. I'm biased I know, but I think if we're able to successfully get the word out, we do have a good chance.

I do agree with you that people should research and look into their candidate before making a decision. You make very good points.

Anyway, I'm going into this to help out...and to have fun. I love the challenge and the process. Win or lose, it's not going to be from want of trying.

You have a great attitude and are a true patriot. Best of luck!! Anything can happen as you point out. let's hope for the best. And you are right campaigning can be fun. Most of my true friends I met on campaigns 30 years ago.
