Goal For 2010 Elections

Sure, it's only congressional elections, but they're just as important. Some of you have had good luck in convention and others haven't. Try to make this your goal for the 2010 election:

Get at least one more person involved in the process. Someone who isn't part of the cause or someone who is and was too lazy to participate. If we had double the numbers at our state convention we could have owned it! Attendance is never 100% and the establishment will pay for every single one of their people that stayed home.

Not only are they just as important, but they're much easier to win, because turnout is so much lower than in presidential election years.

2010 means campaigns in 2009 then. We really do not have much time and we will have to end up choosing which candidates to push for versus others. I wonder if this will happen through the campaign for liberty effort or not.

Yea true, something to focus or work on is good. 2009 is perfect for that... all of us campaigning for Congressman... then RP for PRESIDENT :D :cool:

I can see us getting many congressmen into office into 2012 who can THEN be HUGE endorsements for the NEXT constitutionally backed candidates of 2012 whoever they might be.

I am hoping the next Presidential election cycle will have MANY liberty candidates to choose from but that will be up to us.

We really need to STOP wanting to vote for ANYONE who is close to ron paul though. We need to keep educating our neighbors, family and friends for the 2010 and 2012 runs.

For 2010, keep in mind the basic formula for ACTUALLY GETTING PAUL CANDIDATES ELECTED to Congress:

-Find an OPEN, or clearly vulnerable seat. Running against a strong incumbent ensures defeat from the start.

-Run in the party the district trends towards. Running a Ron Paul Republican in a 80% Democratic voting district is a waste of time. Run RPRs in GOP areas, otherwise find a Ron Paul Democrat.

-Run where there is a WINNABLE nomination situation. Otherwise, the 'strong incumbent' or incumbent political machine syndrome will prevail, and crush the alternative 'outsider.'

-Find a credible candidate, who can raise $400,000. That is the minimum amount needed to garner serious media attention, and to do the saturation advertising needed to win a congressional campaign. Find a tycoon who's willing to put a lot of their dough into the effort, and that should satisfy both the background and financial credibility hurdles.

-Develop a strong grassroots structure for the candidate. The candidate should be able to garner a strong support network if they have the above factors in place. Endorsements and alliances should already be in place when they run, or should be quickly accomplished.

Putting this all together, RPRs should look for an open/vulnerable Republican seat where the local GOP apparatus is in disarray, or being taken over by Paulites. Field a Paul movement person with good 'life credentials' (a professor, business leader or war hero) who can raise 400k or more to run in a winnable nomination. The candidate should already have a significant base of coalition backing at the start of the race. If it's a Democratic district, a RPD should be selected based on the same criteria.

There should be only a handful of races around the country where this strict criteria can be met, where we can concentrate our energies and money. We should NOT focus on a candidate just because Ron Paul supports him, absent these additional factors---the point is to focus on Constitutionalist candidates who are in the BEST position to WIN.
