Hello,
It's Jason again, the 30ft pole guy. I wanted to share some stories about the Campaign for Liberty sucesses we've had in Rochester, MN and in the first congressional district.
1. There was a race between two candidates for the endorsement for the 1st Congressional District US Congressional seat. The party (based on a rule put forth by the Ron Paul group asking all delegate nominees to state who they are supporting for congress) had overwhelmingly selected candidate A over candidate B. We needed help to get our delegates moved forward and so did candidate B. We teamed up and helped each other move delegates forward, and we were sucessful breaking up the party's slate and moved a decent number forward to District and State.
To shorten the rest of the story.....it was the Ron Paul delegates that gave candidate B victory in the first round of voting at the endorsing convention (district). Candidate A would have been a fine candidate as well, he just wasn't as aligned with our values as candidate B was.
BOTTOM LINE: The Ron Paul supporters were the ones who ultimately decided who was the endorsed candidate.
2. Well this was a victory, then it was taken away from us. We had a Ron Paul supporter elected as a National delegate (1 out of 3) in our district convention, but then had it taken away at state. Long story there!
BOTTON LINE: The CfL message was popular enough with the non-CfL delegates that one of us actually did originally get voted in.
3. Rochester, a city of over 100,000 people, is represented primarily by two districts....and both districts have CfL candidates running against DFL incumbants.
BOTTOM LINE: We have two endorsed CfL candidates for the Minnesota House of Representatives from Rochester and there are at least 8 endorsed CfL state house candidates in the state Minnesota.
So, it is working. As the CfL movement gains even more strength, the party will have to be careful about putting up candidates (new or incumbants) that aren't aligned with the party platform. They will know either that they may lose the CfL vote or the CfL may challenge them with their own candidate or support a 3rd party candidate.
While the party might see this as a threat, our making them put forth only the best candidates (or in some cases not allowing poor candidates to win) will only strengthen the party. The CfL not always voting the party line may cause some republican losses, but ultimately those losses (by keeping Democrat-Lite candidates out of office) will be doing the party a favor. Hopefully the party will start holding their candidates and elected officials accountable.
Hope this provides some motivation for some.
Oh yeah, and if you want to see another Minnesota victory (me in the Minnesota House of Representatives) and your able to help financially....with ANY amount, please consider contributing using the link in my signature! I would really appreciate it! I'm sorry I even have to even have to ask.
Thanks,
Jason
