They kept all other countries out of referendums....

Thank everything thatīs holy that Ireland has freedom loving people who today struck a hard blow at the socialistic agenda of the power elite.

Beware Americans that they will try the same to you, force you into a union in secret, without the peoples consent.

Ireland is also #3 most economically free country, 2 places above the US. (#1: Hong Kong. #2: Singapore)

I think it's interesting that the only country that allowed the people to vote via referendum is the only country who voted no. Every other country had their legislator vote on the issue. I don't think it's a conspiracy. I just find the disconnect between the lawmakers and the common people to be astounding. Anyway, good job Ireland.

I posted a new thread on this too with a link to the video of Ireland's PM expressing his disappointment.

Way to go Irish! I salute you!

it is the same treaty as was rejected before in referendums in France and Holland (I think)

here in Sweden most do not want it...that's why they do not allow referendums...

the elite try to say screw your democracy, we will have the treaty weather you like it or not... thank god for Ireland.

Everyone needs to head to Irish bar for a drink and tell the bartender what happened with the vote.

Well, it's not that they allowed it - their constitution force the referendum in such cases (as someone mentioned earlier). I bet there would be no referendum in Ireland otherwise (as in all other countries). The EU bureaucrats ("conspiring" with local goverments) simply want to shove the EU consitution down our throats.
The disconnect you're writing about is HUGE. France and the Netherlands voted NO in the first round, so they repainted the document so it could be passed by the govt instead of the people in referenda. I became a real EU sceptic recently. We were happy with all this openess at first, after decades of communism isolation, but damn, this EU socialism, often stupid legislation and the kind of power grab we see now start to look scary.

Great defeat Ireland! I and the free worlders congratulate you on a vote well done. If us in the USA know any direct Irish descendants thank them for this vote so they can spread the news back home. And not to spoil the fun but get ready for round 5-6-7-8. They will keep on trying year after year or make Ireland miserable to force the commoners into believing that they need it. Keep on spreading the news in Ireland of what this is about and how they will try to write another one until it is passed. As long as Ireland gets to keep voting on this it needs to keep being turned down. Once again please keeping spreading the education of this treaty to others in Ireland and let them know they will keep on trying.

Patrick Henry, have you heard of the National Initiative for Democracy?
