My wife and I took our oldest daughter (9yrs) to the Scottsdale Gun Club today for my daughters first time shooting. I was wearing one of my Ron Paul t-shirts. While I was deciding on which .22 cal would be suitable for her size, another couple about my age came up to me and asked, "Sorry to bother you when you are out with your family, but we've been seeing signs all over the place. Who is Ron Paul?"

The gun club was pretty busy with probably 30 customers in the store area, so I spoke a little bit louder than was necessary to answer the question. I told them Ron Paul is a congressman and physician, who's running for president. The were impressed and they asked me where he stood on the issues. By this time I had the two sales associates, another couple in the store, and an older guy leaning in. I started by stating the fact that Ron Paul has never, ever in 20 years voted for any federal restriction on owning firearms. I then told them about smaller government and lower taxes, and all that. I ended the conversation by asking them to google Ron Paul, and look for him on YouTube.

It took 3 minutes of my time and it likely yielded 5 or more supporters.

I can't wait until the "Crossroads of the West" gun show. It's on our meetup calendar, and it should be huge. We'll likely make supporters out of 90% of the attendees by the time they hear "no federal restriction on gun ownership".

P.S. I ended up with the Walther P22 for my daughter. It worked out extremely well.

Very good work. I think it is vital to reach out to gun enthusiasts as they can sometimes be the most enthusiastic about candidates that support gun rights.

You need to remember that a lot of gun owners are pro-war, like me. Tell them what I told myself eventually. :D

Do you want the War, or do you want your freedom?

You should go and look at Oleg Volk's graphics, too [olegvolk.net]. He is a member of this forum and an awesome graphics artist, and he has already voiced his support for Ron Paul.

http://gunowners.org/pres08/paul.htm <- check this out, too.

Here are some gun rights sites for you to preach Ron's Gospel on:

1. http://thehighroad.org

2. http://thefiringline.com

3. http://glocktalk.com.

Very true. There simply aren't enough candidates who really follow through on supporting gun rights, so when we enthusiasts find one, we tend to be a bit clingly. Why do you think I keep voting John McCain & Jon Kyl for the senate ;) ? It's certainly not about their border policies, let me tell ya!

Note to self: Never leave the house again with an RP T-shirt and no literature to hand out!

We could use some help over on ar15.com, it's a rough crowd mostly in the general discussion, but here in the politics and activism section is where the threads hang around long enough to follow:

They are mostly rabid Fred heads, they really do sound like they came from the fred thompson forums except they are 100% serious.

Here is an excerpt:

"On the day he announces, the heads of all the Ron Paul supporters will explode in unison. Should sound like a low frequency fizzing."

"Good point. Perhaps Fred should announce by carrying the head of Ron Paul through the streets on a pike."

And be sure to have in mind how to address the matter of Paul's rating with the NRA if anyone brings it up.

While the NRA does good work and I support the organization, it's important to realize that today the NRA is as much a lobby for the gun industry and gun manufacturers as it is for the 2nd amendment; the former is important to keeping the lights on.

So Paul has had a difference of opinion with the NRA when it has come to a select few pieces of federal legislation that would have the effect of subsidizing the profits of the gun industry or artificially limiting their legal liability, activities which Paul doesn't believe are Constitutionally authorized roles of the federal government. That's how committed he is to the Constitution in its original intent.

I should have mentioned that today. I'll be better prepared for the Crossroads gun show for sure.

Specifically Ron is rated B because he voted against the limited liability bill.

On the other hand he introduced and Sponsorted The Second Amendment Protection Act (http://www.theorator.com/bills109/hr1703.html), which the NRA refugsed to support.
