Ron Paul supporter running for Ohio Attorney General

Last week, Robert Owens announced he would seek the office of Ohio Attorney General this November.

For years, Owens has been involved with the "Liberty Movement," which he said advocates for a return to free market economics and smaller government.
Owens and other like-minded individuals across Ohio came together to support U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas in his bid for the presidency.
"That left behind about 1,500 very active, very motivated grassroots people," Owens said.
When allegations of sexual harassment and mismanagement broke in the office of Democrat Marc Dann, Owens said he was approached to make a run for the office.
Owens said he initially was hesitant because he and his wife had hoped to start a family.
"It wasn't really what we had on our minds at the time," Owens said.
Owens said the more he thought about it, the more he felt it was his calling to take a chance and run for office.
With his grassroots supporters behind him, he was quickly able to obtain about 1,335 petition signatures in 44 Ohio counties to place himself on the ballot as an independent.
Owens acknowledged the challenges of running as an independent, but said he believes voters are more eager now than ever to look at an independent candidate.
"They're just completely fed up with party corruption," Owens said.
