Has anyone read this book by Larry Sabato?
http://amoreperfectconstitution.com/

I am completely neutral toward it at this point, but I do find it interesting about calling for a new "Constitutional Convention" to basically "re-write" our Constitution.

I always felt we already had the power to alter our Constitution via the Constitutional Amendment process.

So, what do you think?

I'm not at all opposed to amending the constitution, but it is not a decision to be made lightly, or by our present congress. ;)

Restore the articles of confederation. That was the more perfect constitution. The federal system is what got us into this mess.

The Articles of Confederation were a mess in their own right. Going back to that would more or less create 50 different nations overnight. I would strongly advise you to read up about the Constitution and the Articles before making a claim like that.

Two of the most common things you take for granted are protected under the Constitution and not the Articles:
1) Full faith and credit
2) Interstate Commerce

I will be the first to admit the Federal Government is out of control but reverting to something our Founders all agreed was not working is not a viable option.

It could use some amending in my opinion. One idea I've been reading about lately that sounds like a good idea is to require any war declarations to be approved by a national referendum of the voters.

I actually prefer Smedley Butler's proposal that any declarations of war be voted on by a limited plebiscite composed only of combat-capable individuals, but a straight popular vote would at least be an improvement on the current President as Caesar model.

I would like to see a constitutional amendment to barr the government from interfering (which includes taxation) with commerce in any fashion.

I'd like a constitution which tells the government what they CAN do, as opposed to specific things they cannot do.

I have always favored re-writing our Constitution. However the problem is who's going to write it? Chances are, you'll get a bunch of Neo-Conservatives like Cheyney and McCain to sneak some crap in here, and pretty soon you'll be wishing you went back to the previous Constitution. But if, by some miracle, you could actually get some people in there to write a proper Constitution, hell yes.

Amen.

The constitution isn't whats wrong. Its the Federal Government and the Citizens of the United States.

It's the Government for allowing each other to get out of hand.

And it's us citizens for allowing our government to get so out of hand. For not paying attention. For believing their pack of lies. For closing our eyes and ears. For putting up with their little laws that turn into big laws against our freedoms and liberties. Without so much as a phone call to congress.

If you have a spoiled brat for a kid. And you allow him/her to grow up spoiled. Then who's to blame.

Ron Paul woke us up. And we took notice. And we will either lay down again. Or we won't. Time will tell.

Eventually, we will have a true revolution against our own Federal Government. In which they will have no choice but to use our own military against us and slaughter us in the streets like a bunch of wild dogs.
Or we will be able to do it peacefully through term limits that Americans (not congress) set. We will be able to invade congress and the White House through a "just and peaceful" election process.

But, until one of the two happens, the agenda that is set by the NEOCON liberals and phacist will continue.

As it stands now. "They" do not fear us. Though they keep a watchful eye on us. They have no doubt that the RP Revolution will die as soon as the next president takes office. (or even sooner)

I pray for the day that the last lobbyist and NEOCON get escorted out of Washington DC and State Capital and Legislation building in Every state. And peace and liberty minded people take their places.

God bless Ron Paul for showing us not only what is wrong with our Government. But for showing us, what is wrong with us.

I was given a copy of this for Christmas, but I still haven't read it.

My cousin used to work for Sabato. I've never been much of an admirer...

You fools.

We are the rulers of this country. The second you pretend anything else, you have given up that very right. We are not slaves to our ancestors, and our descendants will not be slaves to us.

A Second Constitutional Convention is going to be necessary if we continue sliding towards Theocracy.

Kade, you will never be able to stop the coming theocracy. We Christians have you "atheists" beat in numbers. So just stop with your humanistic utopia rantings.

Sometimes I think some of the members of this board are just here for entertainment purposes only.

And others are here to prey on the frustrated and disenfranchised in order to recruit followers for their various perverse ideologies.

Still, even with the chaff amongst the wheat, we've got a great bunch of people here.

Maybe if following the Constitution was getting us into trouble, but that is clearly not the case. Our Constitution may be lacking some amendments, but otherwise I say it's gold.

A con-con could be (and probably would be) BIG trouble. Best intentions would open the door to total loss of freedom, so be very careful. Amendments are a bit safer than a total re-write, but the latter would need hi-jack security... sort of a TSA thought screening to weed out any would be tyrants. Elect like minded people to congress for a house-cleaning!
