I was there! One of our state coordinators presented him with the bat after his speech was over. Perhaps that part never made it onto the recordings, but it cracked me up. Dr. Paul walked around the stage a bit swinging it (did he used to play baseball or something? He looked pretty professional.) And then someone joked that he needed to take it to Washington :D

I think you might be talking about Roosevelt's "Speak softly and carry a big stick" policy. Basically he wanted a big military-- using its strength to scare all the Latin American nations into submission.

Yes he was pro baseball player (I think semi-pro). It's sweet to see him walking with determined attitude on stage and bat in his hands.. He's young at heart! GO RON PAULLLL! LOL
