Post what state you live in.

I certainly do. Rhode Island is a mini-Michigan. Unions, the ACLU, and welfare recipients rule the day.

Texas, we're not so bad.

However, we have a lot of work to do.

In Connecticut, there's no problem that can't be solved by bigger government.

Thankfully I'll be in New Hampshire soon.

Hmm I'm going out on a limb here... but any state that did not vote 51% or higher for Ron Paul is socialist ;)

Texas may have the TTC and Rick "What's the Logan Act?" Perry as govenor, but we still have Concealed Carry and no state income tax,

That's because all the people who were tired of Rhode Island and Mass moved up there. Rhode Islanders are now moving to Texas and North Carolina...beware!

I am also in Rhode Island... interesting.

But why are you bashing the ACLU?

Indiana's not too bad. Our governor gave us a big property tax cut but increased the sales tax by one percent. At least we don't have any bills mandating inoculations of all children like New York does. Although I figure if that bill does pass I could see others passing similar legislation.

Seriously? I won't go there. Let's just say I'm no fan of the Aging Communist Leftover Union.

I lived in Indiana for about 6 years, (University of Notre Dame)...

Indiana is a pile. A junk state. It's cheap to live there, because it's a trash heap.

One of my least favorite places I've ever lived.

California here. This state has a big government neocon governor that wants to have state-run global warming programs. We have tax after tax, usually to soak the rich. The state is run by Democrats. On the otherhand, we also have the San Fernando Valley, and that is one of the porn capitals of the world.

California GSP is highest in America. The state is one of the most free, and easiest to start a business. It has great wealth, and great cultural diversity. Your spin of what it stands for is bias at best... California's personal income is ranked 11th in the nation, it is the leader in several industries, including agriculture, energy, technology, wine, and entertainment. California is also responsible for over 13% of America's GDP, and by itself, is larger than all but 8 countries in the world.

You can mock it all you like, the facts don't work on your side.

California here as well,

There is the ability to generate income here in Cali BUT you can also buy your way in as special interests run most things anyways. It might seem free but read between the lines.

We have cities trying to remove the rights to even own a handgun among other things. We were one of the first if not the first to remove smoking from the planet, now banning cell phones among other things.

We have cameras going up all over the place and "progress" is everywhere just more towards socialized style.

There is also however a great medical marijuana effort here in California BUT that too will end up socialized as the state wants its hand in it.

Here in clovis for instance, the cops actually tried to set it up so they get a cut from any dispensary that would open.

You can become successful in Cali but at a price indeed.

Indiana here, too. Our government can't figure out what to do with taxes. I especially liked the income tax increase in Marion county to pay for the new Colts dome. And by "liked" I mean "didn't like at all." I'm glad I don't live in Marion county.

Besides the taxes, it's okay here.

Georgia...Pretty decent with educational freedoms, taxes in my neighborhood are pretty low (but I don't live in a rich neighborhood), but they tend to do a lot of "rolling roadblocks" with the police. Sonny Perdue just decided to cancel adding back in the gas tax that was due to re-appear in July. Republican governor, but the State Convention belied any GOP fairness or justice, as well as the concept of grassroots democracy.

Not as soon as I'd like, but I estimate I'll be ready to move in about a year. At this point I'm not confident I'd be able to find a halfway decent job. Once I gain some more work experience (and a good reference) that should make my search much easier. I just don't want to end up working at a call center or behind a register somewhere, which it seems is where most people with liberal arts degrees and little experience (and no connections) end up.

On a similar note, I’m thinking about taking a last-minute trip up to porc fest. However, with gas over $4 a gallon (plus wear and tear on my car) I don’t know if it would be worth it.

VA is hard to figure out. We seem to embrace moderate repubs and moderate democrats alike- it's nothing to vote in a Dem governor and Repub delegates in the same election. There is no difference it seems and the people LIKE IT that way. Northern VA is heavily Dem (and also home of the McMansions). The southern shore is military plus dem. Then there's DC right there and the constant onslaught of the dirty politics...it's confusing here. I think most people just shut down and vote their partyline. It's shameful to me because in days of old VA fought for states rights. Nobody seems to care anymore.

It's a completely different state than it was even 20 years ago.

Going to school in VA and knowing a lot of people here, I'd much rather live here than Maryland....one of the most heavily tax-burdened states. Montgomery, Prince George and Baltimore Counties are socialist through and through, and they have about 55% of the state population....what the other 18 or so counties think doesn't matter.

The way it works in Maryland is, to get about 80% of the blue counties, the Dems talk up social welfare and B.S. spending programs. To make matters worse, though, to get what they need to win the state from the other areas, they talk up environmental conservation projects. Softcore liberals in the rural areas go for that, so they win, imposing sanction upon sanction on the Bay (usually by heavily taxing small fisheries and farms which do FAR less damage than whatever the hell they're doing up in the harbor at Baltimore) to appease them. Then they raise taxes on everyone to pay for the social programs they promised the three blue counties.

Our governor won the state by promising not to raise utility rates, then last year he raised them by 50% anyway. What was a significant budget surplus under our previous governor (the first Republican in 40 years to govern MD, although he had his own issues he was in fact fiscally conservative) has turned into a $1.7 billion deficit - which O'Malley has "fixed" by passing it along to the citizen, increasing state tax collection by 14% (part of which was a 1% increase in the sales tax).

Yeah, I'd take VA over MD as well. No offense. :)

It's just so different now...

North Carolina has had an inefficient Democrat-run government for over a century... and higher taxes than the other southeastern states... but I can't call it socialist.

It has plenty of small, rural bible towns and still has some "dry" counties. Plus, it has a deep rooted antagonism towards legal gambling.

It's too big to be politically cohesive, and there are cultural differences that come with the topography. People here talk about "the east" and "the west" like residents of Texas do... distances that are too great to cover easily.

Theres lots of global warmers here in California. Pretty scary how many people believe CO2 is poison.

Regarding ACLU. I don't see them as a threat at all, and even know Ron Paul supporters that work for the ACLU. For instance, the ACLU is fighting REAL ID right now. Maybe they pick some fights we might not all agree with, but they are fighting for our civil liberties.

Moved to NC for the last year and just recently came back as my wife and kids couldnt handle being seperated from the family. Now I'm back to broke and cant find a job. Michigan Sucks.
