Guessing there are enough folks here who know more about this than me.

What is the cheapest, handheld device that can work with an Excel spreadsheet?
That would be the only feature really needed.

Thanks,
eb

A mouse, I assume. Unless you specifically want your "hand held device" to have features a mouse doesn't have (besides it's ability to do something--anything--to a spreadsheet, of course).

Ok, let me clarify :D

a hand held device that I can take with me and that has the innards to work with a spreadsheet, and has it's own power supply and display.

Heard of phones that let you surf, but I've never heard of anything smaller than a laptop that will allow you to so much as input data in a spreadsheet.

"Docuemtns to go" on a palm-os powered PDA as the cheapest way to do what you want.

My old cell phone, the SMT 5600 by Audiovox had spreadsheet capabilities and I bought that three years ago for around $150--there's got to be lots better out there by now.

You can get older Pocket PC's on ebay for pretty cheap. This is the model I still use, and it works well:

Thanks, that was what I needed to start googling.

This isn't exactly a handheld device, but I've been looking into laptops lately and came across this: http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/asus-eee-pc-4g/4505-3121_7-32927327.html?tag=txt

It only weighs about 2lbs and costs $399. Pretty freakin' good deal and rated pretty high, it'd certainly be able to handle spreadsheets and be easier to use than a hand-held device.
