Help get 100s of thousands of people aware of Dr. Paul,
get an extra 10,000 to the July 12th march,
get an extra 50,000 to the RNC,
sell several more thousand copies of "The Revolution",
get millions aware of H.R. 2415 'The Affordable Gas Price Act'
and having many emailing their Congressman, which in turn
will have affects that will...

a) help oust the unhealthy Congressmen and
b) elect RP Congressmen

There's far reaching ramification here. I'll elaborate more tomorrow.

In all reality it better be a very easy idea with minimal effort.

Thats is why the money bombs worked so well. The folks that supporters are the ones we need because there are many times more supporters than activists. All the Activists are already here so we need to bring on more supporters and give them an easy and exciting task that makes them feel good about the part they are playing.

McCain people get reports of an ever costlier, deadlier, and expanding war. Further PATROIT act style laws, until all messages start coming from the ministry of truth.

Obama people get reports of a bankrupt country from universal healthcare while getting mired in a lengthy war withdrawl.

Paul people get some very rosy outlooks

Just a guess at what would be a splash, especially considering how many paulites are Internet savvy and would play. Of course, it should be hidden so it's not obvious a paul-proganda ;)

Well, you have to understand that many people here have witnessed similar threads in the past about the billionaire or some conference calls with big plans that never happened. So quite a few are cynical when it comes to threads such as this. However, it would be great if this was the exception to the rule here on RPF.

I have to say that I disagree with Ron on this one.

High gas prices are a good thing.

We're in the middle of an adjustment period, transitioning from gas to electricity as our primary vehicle fuel (see: tesla roadster (http://www.teslamotors.com/)/Tesla Bluestar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla_BlueStar)) and pushing government policies that manipulate the current market by reducing the price of gasoline would set us back into the 90s/early 2000s where certain people (http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Fat) wasted lots of our petrol by buying and using SUVs (http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Car#SUV.27s).

I like the current market situation, where the wastefulness of one fat man per suburban is penalized by $4.00 a gallon. Makes me feel that much better about reading a book while riding the bus.

High gas prices are a good thing.

Having bought a Prius years ago, while I'm not thrilled at the prices I'm glad I tried to be proactive about gas prices. However, the heating and electric prices are what's scary.

Fixed income people like my grandparents are seeing expenses shoot up dramatically, far faster than they ever anticipated. Living in the northern midwest the last heating season saw natural gas rates climb sharply. If it keeps spiralling out of control there will be some very serious problems. Gas companies can't shut off gas during the winter. There's nothing about companies having to turn it back on once it's shut off - so next winter might be very bad. I heard a recent statistic that over 15 million Americans are behind on some utility bill.

A few years back there was a heat wave in Chicago, over 600 died in a week - mostly elderly - because they couldn't afford A/C nor did they feel safe opening a window for what little relief that would give.

It's those who were promised social security for retirement purposes that are going to get hurt at this rate, and hurt badly. Or those who were just getting by and all of a sudden heating costs have jumped 50% or more. Forget guns or butter, it's getting to the point of 'food or prescription pills or heating the house'

I don't know how you can legislate better oil pricing but looking into ways to help people is a valid idea during a transition to a better energy policy. A presidential energy discussion that isn't held behind closed doors, with a non-secret list of who even attends it would be a good start!

A couple things that you may want to be careful of is:

a) we really don't have any oil shortage (that's media scare
tactics and government control being implemented)
b) statistically speaking, raising gas prices hardly affects
travel plans at all
c) a free(er) market would evolve us beyond gas only transportation
d) looks like you are bitter about 'riding the bus' thus are justifying
it by clinging onto the same sound bits that many jealous Europeans
spout. (No offense, I've simply heard the "Americans deserve high
gas prices" and "You all need to pay the same price as us" lines
many times.)
e) the whole vehicle/gas/transportation/regulation/innovation/evolution
picture is ALL politics and manipulated by all the players. There is
much education that WE THE PEOPLE need to see to know the

b) statistically speaking, raising gas prices hardly affects

c) a free(er) market would evolve us beyond gas only transportation

it by clinging onto the same sound bits that many jealous Europeans
spout. (No offense, I've simply heard the "Americans deserve high

many times.)
e) the whole vehicle/gas/transportation/regulation/innovation/evolution
picture is ALL politics and manipulated by all the players. There is
much education that WE THE PEOPLE need to see to know the
whole story.

a) We have a shortage because we're not putting straws into our offshore reserves and burning shale oil. It makes sense--we're trying to drain everyone else's oil so that eventually we're the only ones left with oil. If it gets to the point where we both have all the oil and the biggest guns (how it is now) we will be the ultimate power in the universe. That's strategic.

b) have you been on the LA freeways during rush hour? a lot less people driving nowadays, my friend. Now if you're talking about family trips and stuff--yeah, that's probably true. But higher prices ARE affecting everyday, casual driving

c) that entirely depends. If the free(er) market approach leads us back to the 90s, where gas was really cheap, we'll never have electric cars or anything of that nature. Why? Simple economics. The only way people will have an incentive to develop substitutes for Good A is if Good A ceases to be economically viable. If New policies would make gasoline-fueled cars economically viable, then no one will take the time to further develop the batteries needed for an electric car.
The last time we had a major shift against Oil was the 70s--thats when we SHOULD have developed alternatives. Jimmy Carter was very smart in the sense that he had the balls to tell people what they needed to do--conserve energy, save money, invest in renewables, etc etc--but he was also very, very dumb for trying to force it with the Department of Energy, thermostat controls, etc etc. That said, we should have evolved past petrol-based gas in the 70s. That we're still running on it now is pathetic, and IMO, its the result of market manipulations and Oil interventionism abroad.

d) I have a car, I just try to cut down on driving it. Sometimes I wake up late, miss the bus and have no choice but to drive. But honestly, I LIKE riding the bus better. It saves me time in the sense that while I'm on the bus I can get a lot of stuff done. While im in the car, I have to focus on driving. Overall public transit is not a bad experience, i dont see why so many people are against it.

e) do you mean to say that innovation is not happening/is not possible? That is beyond silly. Gas operated vehicles should be a thing of the past. I'm sick of seeing the orange haze over Los Angeles everyday.

Also: as far as electricity and heating goes, I don't think that has anything to do with oil. The US has sooo much coal its ridiculous. Just set up some coal plants, get started on building some new nuclear plants, and we should be good. nanosolar (www.nanosolar.com) is also a big player in the sense that they've finally constructed a solar panel that can compete with most traditional power plants for energy production. All we need is someone with the balls to do it or allow it to be done (again, rare in this day and age)

It saves me time in the sense that while I'm on the bus I can get a lot of stuff done. While im in the car, I have to focus on driving. Overall public transit is not a bad experience, i dont see why so many people are against it.

The public bus system in my town is horribly inefficient and is very often late. Sometimes the buses stop running early with no way of knowing before the fact. It is a completely public service, in that it is funded and run by the city.

The 'public' bus (and train) system in Berlin was beyond spectacular; you could just about set your watch by it. In the several weeks that I was there, the bus was late a grand total of one time, and it was easy to see that it was due to heavier traffic that day. The biggest difference between the two was that the Berlin system was run and operated by a private company. It may receive public funding somehow, but nothing I can find about it says anything to the effect that it does.

So, I would definitely be able to support a 'public' transportation system that was privately owned and operated, but not one that is publicly owned or operated. Granted, the comparison is not entirely fair, because the markets are different for the two cities, but that fact cannot account for all of the differences in service.
