I don't want to make a big deal of this, but it's an annoying curiosity for me as to why Dr. Paul is flashing this odd horned gesture that is commonly known as a satanic symbol (its also a symbol for many other things I'm sure)

I'm 36 years old and I never flash any kind of strange signs with my hand - ok. Never.

So can someone explain to me what this means?

Dude, seriously? Are you 36 years old and in the backwater of the swamps with the only working TRS-80 connected to FIDO?

The sign language (hearing impaired) for I love you:

That evidence aside I did hear that Ron Paul supporters were at Ozzfest passing out sacrificial cutlery.

Exactly.. it's the "I love you" signal. The devil gesture is without the thumb.

ROFL

I didn't realize it was the "I love you". hahha. My aunt would love him just for that!

Ridiculous

It is ASL for I love you. If there is video or a pic of him doing it with the thumb over, he is from TX and it is the "Hook 'em Horns", which is also the "devil" sign. There are all kinds of pics of Bush giving the Horns that people used to say he is evil.

When Ron Paul was speaking in the tent at Ames, IA he gave the "I love you" hand sign, and I returned salute from the audience!

Ok, it must be a sign for the hard of hearing. That's cool.
Maybe he has someone hard of hearing in his family, etc.

lol, I knew somebody was going to bring this up. I remember seeing him do that sign and I just had to repeat it over and over again cause I was stunned! I did a little research and found that it does mean "I Love You" the difference being the thumb extended outward, whew that was close!

I always thought it was just "rock on!"

Maybe we should put down the tinfoil hats folks. Its not a devil symbol. Unless paul wears a shirt with the satanic symbol on it, we'll be fine.

"I love you"

"Rock on"

"Go Longhorns"

"You're awesome"

That's all I know it as.

Perhaps it would be more controvercial, yet meaningful, if he were to turn around and send a one-finger solute to the hosts, MCs, and media outlets clearly working to minimalize his message and our passionate support (a.k.a. knowledge).

Maybe he's spiderman? (http://www.jesus-is-savior.com/False%20Religions/Wicca%20&%20Witchcraft/signs_of_satan.htm)

On TV today I saw several thousand kids at some Evangelical concert "rocking out" to some "metal" band. Many of them were floatin' the goat. Satanic agent provocateurs?

This being a political site, people can believe what they want. I'm not here to impose my beliefs on others. God gave people freewill and on here I'm not going to attack people for exercising it. But my take is:

The "horns" with the thumb in was an occult sign before it was any of those other things. The question is why would people use it as anything other than a satanic sign, it being a satanic sign and all. With the "rock on" it's pretty simple... people were using it as a satanic sign in the beginning and the American sheeple just follow the flock to the slaughter as they do with so many other things. That's the biggest problem we all face on this site right? One would hope that God differentiates between intent and idiocy, but accidental manslaughter is still manslaughter so who knows. God's the only judge on that, but I never throw them myself no matter how rockin' the music is just to be safe. I have seen with the thumb out also listed as occult, but where it is sign language for "I love you" I assume that's the intent unless due to context it is obviously not the case.

So....every time a 11-year-old boy playing second base turns and signals to his teammates in the outfield that there are TWO OUTS, he is in league with satan?

Right.

And the satanic symbol DOES compress the thumb. And YES, it was first instituted at rock concerts to symbolize evil by Ronnie James Dio.

This is the real history behind the hand gesture in pop culture.

Ronnie James Dio, the guy who replaced Ozzy in Black Sabbath, started doing that gesture on stage. He himself got it from his Italian grandmother, who used it to ward off the "Malocchia" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malocchia), or evil eye.

The usage grew from there as something the rest of heavy metal adapted. It's meaning mutated into something satanic because it was associated with Black Sabbath and metal music in general. Criticism by morons like Tipper Gore and other critics of metal (which was the considered the "bad" music in the '80's), ironically helped the gesture excell further into pop culture.

RP's version of the gesture looks more like the "I love you" (http://commtechlab.msu.edu/sites/aslweb/I/W1708.htm) gesture, but I like the Spider Man theory also.

EDIT: I should have waited for Kregener's post first...lol.

Please, don't be retarded. It should be fairly obvious that RP does not go around flashing the "devil sign". And here's a news flash - the devil is imaginary.

It is a comfortable finger placement for one constantly lifting his hands in the air to greet. In fact, I'd make the argument that it's the most comfortable finger arrangement -- it's kind of how the fingers naturally fall. Give it a try.

If you note, he doesn't bend his middle and ring finger completely to the palm, they extend outward, relaxed.

To me, it just looks like a relaxed way to lift up your hand if you do it often. No need to read into it that much.

If you have a problem with Ron Paul's supposed satanic tendencies then perhaps you should go support St. Rudy.

Again, it's the American Sign Language abbreviation for "I love you", which is frequently flashed by the deaf/Deaf and others to convey heartfelt friendship more often than romance. I flashed that at Ron Paul at the SLC rally today... until I realized that the media could pick it up and misinterpret it.

First off I want all to know I am a Christian, I was saved when I was five years old. I find it infuriating that the majority of Christians in this country latch on to anything, no matter how small it is, to criticize and demonize in society. It doesn't matter if he's just relaxing his hand, showing the hook'em horns, saying "i love you", or rock on. It's a freaking hand sign, get over it. If you're going to be this ridiculous over it, stop using letters, they are derivative of ancient runes that some people in ancient times used in pagan rituals, Roman lettering (and we all know what the Romans did), and Greek lettering (who believed in the Gods of Olympus and had homosexual-relations with children). Stop making all Christians look insane simply because you are so insecure in your own faith you can't read, see, or hear anything that even remotely reminds you of something you've seen used in a context you disagree with.

OK

THIS

IS

SO

DUMB

Unless Ron Paul is secretly a NWO minion, these are just random positions of a man's hand. These "signs" are so fleeting and it's usually when he puts his hands up and moves his hands around. They are random finger movements and nothing more.

get a life.

Ok, I was finally able to watch the vid clip. First this is old news. Second it was the Love you sign. L with the right hand, U with the left hand. This is popular with teen and 20 somethings. Not the devil sign.
