But this type of negative publicity just empowers Obama. I'm not voting for Obama simply because change for the sake of change is no better than no change at all while he hasn't proven substantially that he is an American first rather than an African American first.

Reminds me of those who claim to support Ron Paul and his conservative values, yet will turn around and piss large amounts of his potential donation money away into the stupidest of ideas. Yet, Obama's change for the sake of change is no more or less significant than the Libertarian support for liberty for the sake of liberty. In this pop culture world we live today, one has to admit that he does exhibit the natural spontaneity and the charisma of a rock star. Our culture considers these characteristics to be qualities of leadership.
It is interesting that you would bring up Obama exhibiting the characteristics of an "asshole." Rock stars learn to take on this "cool" appearance as young women tend to be quite attracted to it. As young women went crazy for King David in the old testament as they did later on for Adolph Hitler, acting like an asshole can definately work to get one elected to a high position.
Another example of successful assholes in America are its business executives. We are so infatuated by the corporate executive asshole that we never question them when they receive tens of millions of dollars worth of bonuses for doing 9 months of work even when their company loses hundreds of millions of dollars.

I think you may being just a little hard on Obama. Mind you, I disagree with him in principle on nearly everything. He is definitely a collectivist type. He wants an activist government who's mission it is to make the world a better place and to make us better people - which sounds pretty, but is really very scary if thought about at all. I would certainly argue that he is less scary than Hillary or McCain. I actually do understand people's infatuation. They are so used to having candidates who are flat out corrupt and repulsive that anyone who seems remotely honest or to have any integrity at all seems like a God send to them. Every four years the people are presented with the choice between a pile of shit and a monkey's asshole. Naturally, when they find someone who doesn't seem to be either of those things, they go bat shit. People see Obama as this generation's JFK - never mind that JFK was nearly as corrupt and venal as his repulsive opponent Tricky Dicky. I am talking about most people and not people like us who have bothered to actually understand the issues and understand our predicament and discovered in Dr. Paul someone who actually addresses our real problems and who has demonstrated unshakeable integrity and devotion to principle. It's like Jon Stewart said - "You seem to be a man of principled integrity - American's don't usually go for that."
