On May 15, Libertarians in North Carolina completed their final petition turn-in to complete their years long battle to certify the Libertarian Party of North Carolina as a political party within the state.
Today, the Greensboro News Record reported that their efforts have paid off and they have been certified:
North Carolina Elections Director Gary Bartlett said he is about to sign a letter that will give the Libertarian Party the same status as Republicans and Democrats in North Carolina.
“They have sufficient numbers to be recognized as a new party,” Bartlett said.
The LPNC drive was accomplished by a combination of activists gathering volunteer signatures and paid signatures gathered in large part by petitioner Darryl Bonner. The national party contributed over $50,000 to the effort while LPNC officials did their part by raising funds to be matched by national.
Congrats to to the LPNC and many thanks to all of the volunteers and donors who contributed to the effort!
