The destination, Google’s headquarters, is packed full of young millionaires, just the kind of audience presidential candidates want to meet while building campaign funds. Already, Google, the fast-growing search and advertising company, has been visited by five candidates, including Hillary Rodham Clinton, John McCain, Barack Obama and Bill Richardson.

When Representative Ron Paul, the iconoclastic Texas Republican, appeared, he attracted an overflow crowd of 250 people, and 100 others watched on monitors from another room. Mr. Paul garnered $3,350 from Google employees. But Mrs. Clinton got 10 times that amount from Google employees, and Mr. Obama raised nearly twice as much as she did.

$3,350????

Is this true, or am I correct in my hunch that the author is using Q2 numbers for this comparison, even though Ron Paul visited Google after the Q2 numbers were in?

Seems fishy...
Ron Paul packs 2-3 rooms at Google and gets 10 times less the Billary??

Vijay Boyapati alone (http://www.lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/014529.html)donated 2,300.00 that day.

All that enthusiasm and only 3000? Kinda hard to believe.

Yeah, that's what made me so incredulous at these numbers.

What? Did you expect the NY Times to be honest?

I mean seriously....with 350 people watching, and 1 guy paying out $2300, that only leaves 11 people donating $100 to make that. 11 people out of 349??

I don't buy it for a minute. Those people all have money.
Are you telling me no more than 11 other people thought his ideals were good?

I'm sure quoting Q2 numbers is much better for the NYT agenda than mentioning how these candidates' respective YouTube videos (http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=AtGoogleTalks&p=v) are doing. :D:D

As of the July filing (Q2), he had received $3,550 from individuals identifying themselves as employees of Google or Google, Inc.

He visited Google on July 13, almost two weeks after those numbers were filed. Hillary was there in February. When was Obama there?

I can't wait now for the Q3 numbers and be able to shove this in their socialist face.

Obama hasn't been there. I have a theory that he's afraid to be measured against RP's awsome reception and his incredible video views. We'll see if he ever shows up at Google.

Q2 numbers are the latest. Q3 numbers aren't out yet. So I would logically take the leap that they are going on Q2 numbers.

Hmmm... Obama on the run? Interesting thought!

As for the NYT, I've sent a polite message to Mr. Hoyt, their ombudsman, to ask for clarification on how these numbers were obtained.

Yeah, that's my point! He visited Google after these Q2 numbers came out (and she didn't even report those numbers correctly), but in the article she connects them to his visit to Google HQ.

Of course, even if we get them to issue a correction or clarification, it'll be stuck away somewhere where no one will see it, and the damage will already be done.

and the damage will already be done.Well, that the whole point of the article, isn't it? Mission accomplished!

The numbers you use for Ron Paul as contributions from Google employees were his 2nd Quarter contributions, BEFORE he visited Google on July 13. For an accurate comparison, see his 3rd Quarter contributions due October 15. You're not comparing apples to apples.

Thanks. :) If anyone else writes, be sure to point out that Ms. Flynn didn't even get the Q2 numbers right. She shortchanged him by 200 bucks.

Guys look at it this way. You're talking about Google employees here. Once the Ron Paul supporters at Google catch wind of this (as tech savvy as they are I have no doubt they will), I'm sure they'll raise some grief to the Times reporter. That, and probably donate more dough. :)

And the NYT continues to be the joke everyone knows it is. Laurie Flynn, you suck at your job! That must be why the Times hired you.

Don't you have to donate over $200 for your name or employer to come up on the list? I donated many times, but it only showed the $300 donation, not the 50-100 donations I made.

How could anyone even know who has donated what if the Q3 numbers are not even reported yet by the campaigns, let alone released to the public?

They held a private event for 20 people $1000 ea after his speaking engagement. That adds up to more than $3350.
