It looks like a large number of people are upset with Foo moving a good chunk of threads. I think he was doing it in order to make a point and it is something that will be looked at this week. He doesn't need to be removed as moderator, he keeps a good watch over this place while we are sleeping. His point he made needed to be brought up sooner or later...

We will come up with a few options to look at and get everyone's feedback before any changes are made.

This is everyone's forum and your input is always appreciated. Hang in there and don't be distracted from our main goal.

Josh-Keep up the good work. It isn't easy herding cats but it needed to be done.

Is this in the right section?

It's not news or discussion about the man Ron Paul so one has to wonder.

Haha. He's right, this has nothing to do with the campaign, this belongs in "General Politics and Other"

Serious question: should we post suggestions for forum structure here or elsewhere?

I'll make a thread for your suggestions in a bit.

Right now there is one board that everyone follows all of the time (Ron Paul), one board that a lot of people follow a lot of the time (General Politics), and one board that a certain subset of us enjoy trolling in now and then (Hot Topics).

The rest of the boards are generally unloved and so it feels kind of pointless to post in them when you feel like a lot of people aren't going to see it, even if they are more specifically/directly germaine to the thread you're posting.

That said, things seemed to be going just fine before this evening, I feel. If there is truly a better way to organize things, it's not immediately apparent to me. (By better I mean in the real world as well as in theory - it's like creating a damn-near-perfect database schema, then implementing it with Access and writing the application to use it in Perl - the theory of the schema sounds good, but the implementation.... nyeh....)

A humble and benevolent king, at that. ;) :p

Maybe the New Posts view style should be the default?

What a suck-up you are. I can only assume the admin has decided you are an obedient enough lapdog that it is worth it to him to keep you on as a moderator. A sad decision indeed.

No, doof, he knows I'm kidding and being sarcastic/ironic.

Maybe you ought to look those things up. ;)

If Ron Paul news and discussion is where everything gets "seen",

then all the new changes will do, at best, is make people "stretch" to make it germane to "Ron Paul news and discussion"

i.e. instead of just posting a link to the latest craziness with the Fed, now people will just add "We really need to educate people about Ron Paul and how he has been warning about this for years..." etc. and then they will get even MORE pissed when the thread gets moved.

Never fight the market. Adapt to it.

How 'bout that... the market already provides... New Posts (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/search.php?do=getnew)

I think some people were jsut too lazy to look.

You comparison is more that Subway should sell cars because someone walked in and asked where the nearest dealership is when it was right across the street.

Yeah I already stated in the "Hang Foo with piano wire" thread that I liked the new posts feature you pointed out.

Obviously "the market" doesn't agree with us.

I guess he posted it where the most traffic would view it. Seems even the admin knows where to post a message so it will be seen. I just refreshed and it looked fairly reasonable again.. If this message got and needed more views it should be on the front page and this is the front page as far as the forum is concerned when viewing.

Best regards
Randy

Foo, you're just wrong.

As I said in the other thread [which you ignored] it has nothing to do with the way I personally wish to read the threads. It's about being able to post a thread and have a reasonable hope that other people will see it and read it.

The simple fact of the matter is that NO ONE is going to read every last subforum. The overwhelming majority of board visitors will go to whatever subforum shows the most users in it and will read that subforum.

There is little or no point to posting a thread in a forum with 2 people reading it. I may as well just write it in crayon on a brown paper bag in my own house, make it into a paper airplane and throw it out the window.

Know why this forum is active, and Ronpaulforum.com is a ghost town? Because if you post a thread in that forum, crickets will chirp and no one will answer. As soon as that happens a couple of times, people bail. B A I L. And if you split up all the threads on this board "properly", most threads will be "dead" threads that no one reads, no one answers, and that end in crickets chirping. And then people will bail and the board will die.

I run a site also and one thing I learned a long time ago is users hate change. I agree Foo does not need to be removed he was doing what he thought was best for the site.. IMO this site is moderated and runs very well and the moderators pretty much stay out of the way of the users.

No matter what you do not all will be happy - my input is that it is already the best RP place to go on the net and it does not need any fixing. I will still be here no matter what..

You might want to just suggest people try to pick out the best fitting forum for their posts.. On my site we have a general discussion forum where anything goes and it gets the most posts and you may want to try that? Call it Ron Paul General Discussion and make sure it is not a sub-forum? Make it so that posts do not get moved no matter what in that forum..

This is the best RP place on the planet bar none!:D

My posts can get moved wherever deemed appropriate by appointed mods and/or cheifs. This is not my server space, bandwidth, registrar, etc. I enjoy the collaboration with fellow RP supporters.

Mod' away buds. It's a-ok.

There should be two general discussion sections. One for those that want to remain passive to attacks, and another for those who want to fight back, dig in their hells, and get down and dirty with the neo-cons that undermine our cause. Yes I'm talking about fighting with people like Mark Levin. If you think this is going to be a cake walk, think again.

For the record, I'm often trying to merge duplicate threads and/or move them to the appropriate section (and respond to flags about spam, porn, viruses, personal attacks, etc.). . . just so the blame is divided appropriately. :)
