Bump for South Dakota. I'm sure the buyrates will be relatively cheap around there. $5000 could saturate the entire state.

Are there any polls anymore? Does anyone know what percent of votes he is predicted to get there and in Idaho?

I can only estimate South Dakota will be similiar to the results in North Dakota. Ron got over 20% of the vote here. I don't know how the drop out of Huckabee and Romney will play down there, and also the casual voters assumption that McCain is already the nominee and it being a done deal at this point.

Cable coverage seems pretty scarce in the state. Still looking into it though. Contacted Dish Network also.

Sioux Falls is the largest city in the state. I contacted the ABC and FOX affiliates in the city. Waiting for rates. Broadcast might be better in this case, but it will cost more. We'll see....

Here's the rate card (http://alcpac.com/docs/ABC_KSFYPoliticalRateCard5-1-08.xls) for the ABC affiliate KSFY out of Sioux Falls, SD. The 60 sec length submits us to Level 1 rates. They reach 250,000 households. The pop of SD is around 775,000.

Here's the state-wide coverage map (http://alcpac.com/docs/newtowermap.jpg).

Only $60 for 60 sec on FoxNews Sunday with Chris Wallace. I think 5 ads on the June 1st show would be very smart. People in South Dakota will be tuning in. I imagine they may bump those rates up soon.

This Week with George long last name. $150.

Well, if AdamT goes with the ABC affiliate, he will have the ability to reach just about everyone in the state, maybe less 100k - 160k people, but everyone won't be watching. Is there anything in particular Republicans would watch?

I'm thinking 6 AM M-F, 6 PM M-F, and 10 O'clock M-F news might be the best bang for our buck, since people who watch the news are more likely to be voters.

I can confirm the ChipIn is currently at $1320. The widget is slow to update. I'm thinking the $2000 goal was a little modest considering we just started this afternoon. Should I up the goal on the widget? $4,000? The more we get the more times the ad plays and the more people see it.

Still waiting cable rates and coverage maps. They never returned my call today.

I agree that the nightly news is a very good choice.

Going broadcast (ABC, etc) is a little more strict as they require larger disclaimer text at the end which gets a little intrusive on the screen. When we aired ads on ABC in New Hampshire late last year we had to submit the entire ad transcribed into a script, and were required to include various news articles to prove the content of the words to be true. Must be something with having a broadcast license vs a cable license. Never had anything like that happen with cable ads.

They might not be that strict in SD, may be a station to station thing.

MikeSmith
05-21-2008, 10:59 PM
Just a hopeful thought... I don't know the likelihood of either of these things happening (probably not that likely), but if we can actually pull off wins for Ron Paul in ID and SD, there's a chance the national cable news networks will do a story on this ad, presenting it as the (or one of the) reason(s) why.

skyorbit
05-21-2008, 11:20 PM
Well, we'll know more when we find the Cable Rates.

Is ABC has a way to reach almost the entire state, we should definitely advertise there. At least everybody that watches ABC will get it.

Then get cable rates. We should be able to get all the cable companies I would think.

ABC doesn't reach Rapid City but I'm sure a cable company has coverage there. Satellite is a no go as you have to buy national which costs a fortune.

And Rapid City is the 2nd largest pop center area (area includes Sturgis, Custer, etc.)

And the Aberdeen Area

If we could cover all those, we'd be great.

With South Dakota being less then half the size of Idaho, you'd think with $4000 we could do that, don't you think?

Spearfish has a nice chunk of people as well near Rapid City. I think Pierre and the middle of the state should be last on the agenda....get the population centers eastern and western parts of the state. If we can saturate the entire state it's all good baby :)

By the way does anyone know the buyrate for an extended tv spot...say 5-10 mins? I'd love to see one of the amazing youtube videos that converted all of us and got us here air in a state, even if its only shown a few times.

Got the cable rates (Excel (http://alcpac.com/docs/SD_MidContinent_rates0317'08.1.xls) or PDF (http://alcpac.com/docs/SD_MidContinent_rates0317'08.1.pdf)) for MidContinent and their coverage map (http://alcpac.com/docs/SD_MidContinentCoverageMap.pdf). They are a lot more than I was expecting. For example, a prime spot on CNN, in the Sioux Falls zone (56,900 households - they're biggest zone) would be $92. Daytime would be $36. There are 15 different zones and offer no Interconnects or discounts for doing more than one zone.

Here is ABC-KSFY's rates (Excel (http://alcpac.com/docs/ABC_KSFYPoliticalRateCard5-1-08.xls) or PDF (http://alcpac.com/docs/ABC_KSFYPoliticalRateCard5-1-08.pdf)) (must be Level 1) and coverage map (http://alcpac.com/docs/ABC_KSFYnewtowermap.jpg).

Here is FOX-KTTW's rates (Excel (http://alcpac.com/docs/FOX_KTTWPolitical_rate_card_2008.xls) or PDF (http://alcpac.com/docs/FOX_KTTWPolitical_rate_card_2008.pdf)) and coverage map (http://alcpac.com/docs/FOX_KTTWCoverageMap.pdf).

Here is FOX-KEVN's rates (Excel (http://alcpac.com/docs/FOX_KEVNRateCard.xls) or PDF (http://alcpac.com/docs/FOX_KEVNRateCard.pdf)) and coverage map (http://alcpac.com/docs/FOX_KEVNCoverageMap.pdf).

Remember to 2x for 60 seconds.

Here's something to consider, from the FOX-KTTW rep:

Attached is our broadcast coverage map. Although this map shows only our broadcast coverage, KTTW airs on cable systems, plus households with DISH Network & Direct TV. And, with KTTW, you get coverage in our whole area with one cost…cable companies charge for each of their systems separately. Also, bear in mind that not all households even subscribe to cable, and one of the largest cable companies in this area (Sioux Falls Midcontinent) isn’t even available in some of the larger towns surrounding Sioux Falls like Brandon, Hartford, and many others! (I do have one-sheets available for your review that will back up this information…) You would have to buy over a dozen cable systems separately to get the coverage KTTW can give you at our one cost.

KTTW can and will get your message to more people for your money!!! Please let me know if you have any further concerns or questions.

It seems like broadcast is the better option in this situation (considering we get the satellites & cable too), but we'd have to pick one station and go with them. We won't get that many spots though. Thoughts?

I still like news spots on ABC, but FOX's primetime (and everything else) is surpisingly cheap compared to ABC. Do you know why FOX is so much cheaper?

btw... 60 seconds is double for both FOX and ABC, right? I don't know what ABC's Level 1 NP rate means.

edit: I don't know if it influences anyone's decision to donate, but it probably makes sense to set the goal to 3k or 4k, especially considering the price/spot.

You should post this on the ron paul myspace group....with a widgit if you could.

I've posted this in numerous MySpace Groups. What else are you talking about?

Can you just post in in the MySpace Group you're thinking?

Even $20 or less would help at this point.

We only need about $800 More.

If only 40 people on this forum each donated $20 we'd have it.

Tracy

OK, I guess I can be one of those 40 people. I did it for IDAHO, so why not SD too?:D

I'm gonna go donate now... Anybody wanna join me?

WAIT...IT ENDED??? I thought the Chip-in ran until tomorrow (5/27). What am I missing here?

That damn ChipIn site
It was set to end tomorrow and must be on some weird time zone thing. Just started a new one for the remaining $800.

BTW That $250 is from Ivan in Brookings SD and $35 more is from Gina from Rapid City.

Because of this most recent (probably the 5 one they've gotten about this) e-mail I sent them about the new Chip-In.

I really don't think you're members would be too upset if they got another e-mail.

You can promise they won't get another for a long time.

Obviously, More then $4000 is better then only $4000.

Only $500 to go.

Lets try to make this before morning (er, you know what I mean.)

Are there 5 people out there who would like to spend $100 each to try and spread Ron Paul's message to South Dakota?

or 10 at $50 each?

Or 20 at $25 each?

We can do this -- or MORE.

We can saturate all 500,000 voters in South Dakota with this message.

Can we keep the chip-in Going and perhaps be able to ad a few spots for Monday or Tuesday?

Or does it have to all be bought at once?

Or perhaps overspend a little and expect to recoupe the costs buy future donations?

Exactly.

The 2 best states (PA at 16% and ID at 24%) had the High Tide Ad in them.

Not too late to donate!
