From what the news media outlets are telling me, Bob Barr is the Libertarian nominee but is that official or is this just another case of the media dictating elections again? The LP debates ive seen on youtube didnt happen that long ago...is Wayne Root out of it? He seems to be most aligned with Ron Paul on the issues and hes pretty charismatic and has realistic goals for the libertarians to take over the white house in 2020.

Nope. The LP convention starts on Thursday (not sure when they decide the nominee). Anything can happen. Whether he gets the nomination or not will likely come down to his performance in the debate.

LP conventions can be unpredictable. That's my prediction. :D

The primary is not over. Wayne Allen Root is still in the race also. In fact, there will be a debate today at 4:30 with Bob Barr, Mike Gravel, Wayne Allen Root and Vern McKinley.

For the record, Vern is running as a Ron Paul Republican for Congress not in the LP contest for president.

I'm afraid that Barr wouldn't campaign strongly against McCain. Just imagine (unlikely, still) that Hillary gets the democratic nomination and Barr the libertarian one and then helps her to beat McCain. That is a little hard to believe, isn't it?

The republicans would of course be happy if the Libertarian Party wouldn't pull over Ron Paul supporters. Now, Barr seems to be popular around here, but really, has he any interest in getting the votes?

This is the weird part. He runs on electability, but he's too close to the GOP to honestly have an interest in being elected.

Some people on the right who think like this seem to like the prospect of Gravel cutting into Obama, yet others seem to think that it isn't sane to toy with fire. So he won't be enjoying broad support from there either.

Which means that the right wing of the Libertarian Party might end up not determining the nominee.

Yeah, I guess he prefers to help a party that largely hates him. I don't know his views, libertarian or paleocon?

Barr is serious about running to win--his campaign manager was with the Perot races and points out that Barr is at or ahead of Perot at this stage in 1992. Once Barr gets in the debates, anything can happen (this is politics).

NO ONE knows how an LP convention will go. :)
