I found a couple of things, don't know how good they are as I didn't read through them:

Yeah contact your state about how to officially get started. I think you have to form a committee and get some signatures, but I really don't know.

Then you work to get your name on the ballot either by being nominated by a party or doing whatever is required to be on the ballot as an Independent.

Then you campaign to increase name recognition and funds. The easiest way to win the election is to have great name recognition before campaign season. So if you're young which I assume you are, I say be patient. Be active in your community for like 5-10 years working on many helpful projects that are in line with your political views. Then run for Congress.

There are some reviews of books on the topic here:

http://operationcatherder.com/index.php/Running_for_Public_Office

and someone said they were writing a brief tutorial that will be posted there.

We are also planning seminars on the topic to hold during the Grassroots Convention, July 13th in the DC area that so so far we have tentative commitments from Tom Lizardo (Dr. Paul's chief of staff - 30 years of political experience) to teach on running for office or how to run a campaign. then John Orlando has agreed to teach one on how to be a campaign treasurer and we are looking for someone to teach one on how to be a campaign manager, etc.

Look at

www.leadershipinstitute.og (http://www.leadershipinstitute.og) and, if you can, attend the "Future Candidate School" It is very inexpensive...

(also "Campaign Managers School" for back-office knowledge)

Lots of good stuff there, I've taken two courses, so far...

That looks like a great school!

It's too bad "Future Candidate School" doesn't have a class scheduled, a lot of our people would no doubt benefit from it for 2010 and 2012! Maybe next year.

You want to start talking to political consultants in your state.
