So, let me get my head around this. Childers, the Democrat who won, is pro-life and pro-gun.

Huh?

Those numbers look odd; espically for Winston County; who only has 1 precint and only had 10 votes out of 19 Thousand people.

I just think its odd that a county of 19 thousand people only records 10 votes TOTAL not 10 for one and 10 for the other but 10 Total

I think he thinks of himself as a "conservative Democrat". If he's pro-gun, that's great.

We expect low turnout, but not that low.
If we assume about 2/3 of the county is both qualified and registered (national average), that means that there was a turnout of such a small number that my calculator gave me it in scientific notation.

We have one of those types in the first district here in Michigan. It's a very rural area. The only way for a democrat to win around here is to be against those two issues. Our Rep. Democrat Stupak only votes "NO" on gun control laws that his party doesn't need him for. He's a sneaky bastard. (Hopefully Linda Goldthorpe can defeat him in the fall.)

that is kind of like Dem Heath Shuler beating Republican Chuck Taylor. Shuler won by being more conservative than longtime Republican congressman Taylor. The house races are all very local and anyone that reads more into it than that is an idiot or a political hack that is paid to say that it means something.

Most congressional districts tend to vote for democrats and it has been that way for the better part of the last 100 years except for the wrinkle in time of the mid-90's. If Dem's aren't picking up seats they are not doing well.
