I got to thinking today .Im pretty confident Ron Paul isnt going to be president, which bums me out .What brings me hope though is that even though hes not gonna be president the enthusiasm still remains strong because people see the truth in his message.
but what concerns me more is if all the enthusiasim hes inspired would goto the wayside after this election process and people slowly go back to just ranting about the goverment and sit back and watch corrupt politicians destroy our country.
The thing i noticed that set Ron Paul apart from the rest is not just his unwavering morals towards following what our forefathers had laid out but the fact that he inspires people to take action
The thing that concerns me is that inspiration will loose its momentum. So i thought about what could keep the momentum going even after this election cycle because i know to change the status quo is gonna take time.
People talk about a third party but the realist in me knows that our system is set up at present that a third party canidate literally has no chance
So the only way is to change the party from within. To do this requires more than just enthusiasim but organization and funding and dedication towards the long haul
Im curious if theres been any talk about creating a organization whos goal would be to

A. continue to spread the message of liberty after this election cycle to inform as many people as possible

B. Help coordinate to get like minded people elected into office through a grassroots system

C to also establish a consensus of Goals for getting policies changed

One example of some success in influencing and changing the party from within has been the christian right. But what ive noticed is what started on good motives has gone to becoming just like the rest ,lobbying and playing politics for some self intrests.
The problem i see with most organizations is they eventually move away from there original intensions and go astray ,so thered have to be alot of emphasis on checks and balances and making sure it stays a organization for the people and of the people through a grassroots system where those with a like mindness of preestabished ideals(like our own version of a declaration towards keeping independence) can have there voices heard,so as to have those in control be accountable

Thats about all of my thoughts on it ,so im curious as to other peoples ideas to make sure this movement continues to become a steady force towards a change in the way politics have become and not just a 2008 fad.

There are like a billion organizations with these goals.

I think focusing on the state level is probably a lot more realistic and a better choice than trying to create any nationwide groups. If you're interested in starting something in your state and are already a well known and respected grassroots activist there, go for it. Let me know if you need any advice on how to go about it, etc.

In Texas most MU are forming Republican Liberty Caucuses. We already have in Brazos County, and they are in the process in Williamson County, Johnson County and many many others.

We are just trying to get city council and a mayor that is behind the constitution then work on the congressional districts. We have a 5-10 year plan, takes time to change the world you know lol.

The RLC is a good organization. There are a lot of good organizations that already exist, too, though not specifically for Ron Paul fans. The Libertarian Party is a good organization that exists, too. It depends a lot of what folks want to do moving forward. Talk to your local activist base, figure out who is willing to put in what level of effort. If you don't have the required people forthcoming to form a new organization, consider joining an existing one like the RLC, the LP, etc.

Im happy to report that my own city recently elected a known RPer to City Council; he tallied the second highest behind our current mayor. Southside Virginia is on its way to following the Plan......

As for an organization...as MDH said; there are many groups with this idea; can we group them all into one websight?

We are sorta doing that - but not what your are thinking about.

Operation Cat Herder is working to keep the EXISTING groups and EXISTING state structure in place. Most of these groups that are sprouting up are top down, bureaucratic, and say this is our platform - join us! - we want to be the new Meetup!

We have our eyes on the near future. The 2010 and 2012 election cycles. Our goals , well the main ones, are to:

Be able to contact everyone. We have contact info for half the Meetup organizers in the country. We want info on the other half.

Provide infrastructure to get everyone talking - well, the organizers.

Map out and track ALL of our sites and provide contact info for them. Some of that we ware doing. For the most part, we are asking people to raid their bookmarks and pick their brains to contribute those sites and projects you know about. We are building a road map of Ron Paul space.

Finding, Reaching out to and Recruiting our skill base. We are already helping congressional candidates connect to skills and resources they need. We are a depository and clearinghouse for people and knowledge.

We host a Grassroots Classifieds where people can list materials, resources and skills available or needed.

We host a Grassroots Field Manual Project and have a pool of volunteers to work on it, though need everyones contributions. This is a project to write a book, by the grassroots, for the grassroots that will document all the stuff we learned, all the tips and tricks and HowTo stuff, so we don't have to re-learn it next time and can build on it instead.

We have been running the Adopt a Meetup project for the past 6 weeks and have caused the saving of perhaps 70 Meetups? That is an extrapolation of the past 2 weeks of data. We need to research prior lists to get a better number. You guys save them, we just tell you what Meetups need to be saved. GOOD JOB PEOPLE!

We also host other information and projects when we see a need or someone contacts us and we like what we see.

On training and bringing together the faces we've been talking to this past year and a quarter as well as agreeing on a future direction, we are planning a convention the day after the Revolution March. It's a 95% go at this point. We are also considering a Ronstock type event the day after.

On the convention, aside from the normal speakers, and multiple simultaneous tracks of workshops / seminars for supporters, organizers, delegates, candidates and technical people we are thinking of spending the morning with some speakers, but primarily to establish a platform and a direction for the grassroots. This is what I'm thinking - and I want your feedback!:

Contact the organizers in every state and ask them to come up with a platform of what we stand for and what we are trying to do. (they should ask their supporters and hold town hall meetings) Who we will support, and the direction we are taking. Not sure exactly what to call that, but have each state come up with a proposal BEFORE the convention.

Then merge these proposals / resolutions or whatever you want to call them into a national document, with the variations noted. Hash out differences in wording online before hand so we get down to 2 or 3 variations (hopefully!) before hand.

Come the convention we will present these and have a representative from each state - or maybe representatives based on population vote on them. Where there is conflict, supporters of each clause can have a few minutes to present their side. Then a vote per clause to vote on establishing a National mission statement / long term foundation document for the grassroots.

Well, it's an idea - if people like it, it will happen, if not, we'll have speakers, panel discussions and debate in the morning.

The next day we can go to Ronstock (if people want that to happen) and PARTY! to celebrate!

One other thing, I would like to see the biggest banner making party that has ever happened occur that day, and supporters spreading out to hang them that night to let VA, DC, MD (and maybe WV, DE, and PA know we were there. Perhaps some of these banners could invite the general public to Ronstock so they can join us.

Just my 2 cents, whats your?

Glad to see my hopes coming to fruition.I only hope now that we can keep the enthusiasim going and dont let the fire behind this movement burn out.

Its refreshing to know that so many arent content anymore or have grown complacent to the socialist idealogy which has slowly been winning our childrens minds to embracing a welfare state.
