Links for more info on the candidates: George Phillies (http://phillies2008.org/) [WP] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Phillies), Wayne Allyn Root (http://www.rootforamerica.com/) [WP] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayne_Allyn_Root), Michael Jingozian (http://www.resetamerica.com/), Christine Smith (http://www.christinesmithforpresident.com/) [WP] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christine_Smith_%28libertarian%29), Dr. Mary J. Ruwart (http://www.votemary2008.com/) [WP] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Ruwart), and Sen. Mike Gravel (http://www.gravel2008.us/) [WP] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Gravel).

Absent were the likely heavyweight contender Bob Barr (http://www.bobbarr2008.com/) [WP] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Barr), a relative light-weight named Steve Kubby (http://www.kubby2008.com/) [WP] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Kubby), several other light-weights (http://www.lp.org/libertydecides/alpha.html), and some nut-job named Daniel Imperato (http://www.imperato2008.com/) [WP] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Imperato). Debate was moderated by Mike Ferguson.

This isn't the only Libertarian Debate, but the only one I could find on YouTube. If anyone knows where one can watch others, please let me know.

Mary Ruwart won.

Phillies is weird. Root is weird. Christine has good content but her speaking style is ridiculous. Gravel is obsessed with empowering the brainwashed people.

Phillies is insane, advertising on Free Talk Live for like a year now, even though Ron Paul is running in the mainstream.

I like Christine Smith and met her in San Diego last year.

Mary Ruwart is just awesome.

Gravel is not even close to being a libertarian.

Root and Gravel were epic failures... I don't feel comfortable saying who "won" but Ruwart did well (I hope she'll recover from her "child sex" comments...)

Edit: I decided to vote for Ruwart....

Yeah... I'm pretty sure Phillies lost a lot of confidence when he implied the LP was being held back by Creationists - a candidate like that would never fly in the G.E.

I thought Smith was very enthusiastic - enough to make me wonder if she was trying to turn the debates into a music video with her ridiculously bombastic gestures.

The winner: Bob barr, because, besides ruwart, all these candidates are a joke. Gravel's not, but hes also not libertarian at all.

And ruwart has 0 name recognition and would get about .5% of the vote, as usual. Bob Barr is the obvious choice, but as for this debate, definately ruwart. Seriously, if Barr is not nominated, i HOPE the LP flounders in irrelevance for eternity. Barr isn't like gravel - using a run for president in the party for his own purposes. No, Barr is a lifetime, card-carrying member who WANTS to see the party built up. I do not understand people's irrational dislike of Barr. Yes, he once voted for the Patriot act and was a drug warrior... but if you actually read anything about him, or anything hes written, hes done a genuine 180 on those issues.

I didn't think Jingozian did too bad - but I have to look up his name to spell it, have never heard of him outside of this year and don't think he's loud or articulate enough (but he's not insane at least).
