Hark, the Plight of Eagle Feathers

By: Scarlet Adara Rowe

They called themselves Americans
not subjects of the crown
They risked it all and shed their blood
freedom they had found

Many came to this great land
with hopes for better lives
It took hard work and diligence
and sometimes even strife

They dreamed of independence
spawned from the tyranny
The sweat and tears of many men
produced great prosperity

Hark, the Plight of Eagle Feathers
Un-tattered by the wind
Secured together, moved by strength
this freedom does depend

Pledging honor to the Republic
liberty and justice for all
United they would stand together
divided they would fall

Leaders in the new found land
were bound by limitation
The people exercised their voice
it was in the proclamation

They’ll call themselves Americans
through the many years
Unless they trade their liberty
for leaders to ease their fears

Hark, the Plight of Eagle Feathers
Un-tattered by the wind
Secured together, moved by strength
this freedom does depend
