View Full Version : What to make of the DOD Information centre looking at my computer in the UK....

Using peer guardian, the software I looked at the other day because someone found the DOD looking at their PC I installed it to see if I had government checking my PC.

The DOD Information Centre has tried to access my IP it seems, on numerous occassions. The US Postal Service also was onto my IP just today. Now this is scaring me a bit, even more so because I live in Wales in the United Kingdom!

How can I upload a picture and what is this all about?

So they have authority to do this right? In the UK?

USPS is probably hard at work trying to locate you to give you the package they lost back. That's some real dedication from our gov't.

Do what? Connect to the PC you allowed on international cyber-territory?

Can't prove they're doing anything more then that.

keep in mind listing by peerguardian are not 100% accurate. You will only get these if u are active p2p user. If you are not, I highly doubt you will get all these IP's hitting you. I'll run peerguardian and let's see if i get hid by gov ip's.

Im just a little confused why they would want to get onto my IP. The DOD has been going into overdrive at the moment from when I posted this.

I'm writing some anti-spam software and was analyzing email header in detail for one of my messages I received from someone and here is something I discovered thats interesting (totally circumstantial - I doubt they would be that stupid to name systems to be so obvious).

This is just the name of one of the AOL gateways that the email message was routed through.

cia-db02.mx.aol.comCIA = I wonder what that could stand for, hmmm?
db02 = systems that have databases are commonly named or have in their name db something for data-base. I checked there are a bunch more cia-db systems 01, 02, 03, 04 etc..

The name would imply that email is being routed through a gateway that stores the email in a database. The CIA would imply a certain agency in our government.

The rest of the header shows that email continues to a second AOL gateway that has normal name and after that it goes out of the AOL network to yahoo where my account was.

Makes you wonder though, doesn't it with the rash of whistle blowers on how our privacy is being violated.

Erm, have you by chance been looking at the USPS website or any government-related website recently? It could also be that the IP was spoofed. There's a pretty interesting discussion over at the PhoenixLabs (http://forums.phoenixlabs.org/showthread.php?t=1227&page=16) forums.

Maybe it means that the DoD spends their day playing World of Warcraft on our dime, and they eat more Twinkies after the DEA joins the LAN party.

Also, just wanted to add that you may be unwittingly launching a DoS against the DoD. May I suggest that you download/use Shoot The Messenger (http://www.grc.com/stm/ShootTheMessenger.htm) to disable Messenger Spam and see if that works?

I have a few gigs of firewall logs showing portscans from compromised hosts that I *will* post here if these threads continue. :p

Actually, there's just more drugs available once the DEA joins... you have no idea how close to right you are.
