I've been searching Amazon for a good Thomas Jefferson biography, but can't find a consensus of the best one to read. Any suggestions?

I recommend Thomas Jefferson and the New Nation: A Biography by Merrill Peterson. If you want a true blue biography, of EVERYTHING in his life this is the best you can get. It's readable, but it's lengthy.

Thanks, that looks like an ebay buy since it's $50 new. I'm also considering Dumas Malones 6 book series which is being sold cheap on ebay. I want to read a real biography before I read American Sphinx, since that doesn't seem like a real biography.

You know --- I appreciate biographies, but possibly consider putting your printer in an arm-bar, and print out a lot of Jefferson's own writings.

Of course, how can anyone be certain what is truly his writing, and what isn't. I found that auto-biography information cited above at a few sites, and after reading a few pages, I believe it is authentic.

Sometimes biographers have a bit of bias. I prefer to draw my own conclusions.
