Clinton, Obama And McCain on WWE's `Monday Night Raw'

LOS ANGELES — A smackdown among presidential candidates?

Barack Obama, Hillary Rodham Clinton and John McCain will appear on World Wrestling Entertainment's live "Monday Night Raw" (8-11 p.m. EST on cable's USA network) but instead of smacking each other down, they separately will deliver some wrestling-themed stumping in taped messages before Tuesday's Pennsylvania primary.

"Tonight, in honor of the WWE, you can call me Hillrod," Clinton says in her message. "This election is starting to feel a lot like `King of the Ring.' The only difference? The last man standing may just be a woman."

Obama borrows The Rock's famous catchphrase during his appearance.

"To the special interests who've been setting the agenda in Washington for too long and to all the forces of division and distraction that has stopped us from making progress, for the American people, I've got one question: Do you smell what Barack is cooking?" Obama says before flashing a smile.

McCain, meanwhile, looked to Hulkamania for inspiration for his message.

"Looks like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama want to celebrate their differences in the ring," McCain says. "Well, that's fine with me, but let me tell you: If you want to be the man, you have to beat the man. Come November, it'll be game over. And whatcha gonna do when John McCain and all his McCainiacs run wild on you?"

The candidate appearances will be used to promote "Smackdown Your Vote!" - the WWE's voter registration drive.

Kane and Val Venus should have had a word with McMahon about getting Ron Paul on the show considering they both support Ron Paul.

Yes, that is true but Kane has been in the WWF/WWE for tens years or so. I doubt if McMahon would sack him, he would have probably told him to fuck off. :D

I just can't picture Dr. Paul goofing around like that just to placate sheeple, nor should he have to. Having him say something like "Let's get ready to rumble" just doesn't sound right to me. He talks about the issues and if people are too stupid to be persuaded by logic, then it's their loss. :(

There are times when it seems like we get our system of values from television
productions. Professional wrestling is one of the few programs which started
on TV in the late 1940s and now claims more viewers than ever. There are no
rules, and it is associated with contrived (but unreal) violence: mockery of the
referee, racism, absence of sportsmanship, yelling, screaming, and hatred.
Reasonable rules of decency are totally ignored. The shows get worse every
year; belts, chains, and cages are now part of the acts. Twenty wrestlers are put
into a ring without a referee and a free-for-all erupts -- the more violent, the
more the crowd cheers the ridiculous charade

Would it surprize you if Ron would turn down an invitation?

I made several posts and a thread months ago for the Grassroots to approach the WWE about Ron Paul since some of their wrestlers are Ron Paul Supporters. It would have been a great venue for us to get Dr. Paul's message of Liberty and Freedom out to the millions that follow the WWE and help fight the lack of MSM coverage. I guess nobody thought it was a good idea.

Now look. Clinton and Obama on WWE. Go figure. Another blown opportunity.

I was in New Hampshire primary when Kane escorted Ron Paul out of the building.

I yelled who needs Chuck Norris when you have Kane. He turned and looked at me with a cheesy grin.

They stole the idea from us. This idea was all over the internet awhile back.

It would be a huge mistake for Ron Paul not to be on as it is broadcast to millins of viewers and Ron Paul has a huge internet following which would be big for the WWE.

I called Ron Paul headquarters and sent them an email about this. Hopefully theyll look into it.

HUGE UPDATE:

I called the Ron Paul Headquarters and they received the email with the WWE Contacts. Hopefully they will contact them now.

Well, I'd think that even Vince McMahon would recognize what Ron said as true. He is selling escapism to a place where violence IS the answer, and where rules are just formalities. Ron was pointing out the popularity of the 'immoral', he was not questioning the morality of Selling the 'immoral'.

It would surprise me, if Ron turned down such an opportunity, especially when he knows he could have actual supporters there with him.

In the past few years, sooooo many big name wrestlers have left the WWE entirely and at random. I think they did this because there are internal problems with the WWE. If Kane were to say "include Paul or I'm out" I think McMahon wouldn't really care and would let him leave since so many wrestlers have done so already.

Guys, the WWE (or anyone else for that matter) isn't going to put Ron Paul in anything at this point. Three months ago, maybe, but not now that the Republican nomination is locked up (yeah, yeah, I know- some of you don't believe that- but the realists realized it long ago, as did Dr. Paul).

Magicman
04-22-2008, 03:13 PM
Actually your wrong, Vince Mcmahon only cares about ratings if Paul still draws ratings then anything is possible.

libertarian4321

You folks need to see reality.

The WWE isn't "snubbing" Ron Paul. If this had occurred in December, when the Republican race was still very much up for grabs, it would have been a "snub" and we would have gone on a jihad against the WWE, but thats not the case today.

They are either unaware that he's still technically kinda sorta in the race (and at this point, thats all thats left of the campaign), or they just aren't going to waste time on a candidate who is still kinda sorta not officially out of it, but who has absolutely ZERO chance of being nominated.

I think its safe to say that NO ONE will be promoting Ron Paul as a legitimate contender at this point, folks. Sorry, thats just the way it is when the race is over.

We lost this one- we need to move on and do something productive- work toward electing other candidates who still have a chance, work toward changing the Republican Party, work toward promoting freedom, but not getting riled up because someone isn't including Ron Paul as a candidate at this point.
