Hey,

Alot of you guys here are hawks when it comes to picking out flaws in policies so, i was wondering if you could take a look at the policies of the "freedom party" in canada, and let me know how close they are to ron pauls. In my opinion the almost all of the policies seem spot on, but im not great at reading between the lines, and i cant really find a clear explanation of their position on our Afghanistan intervention.

here is the link to their policies... http://www.freedomparty.ca/htm/en/policies.htm

I appreciate any advice you guys can lend... I want to start supporting these guys, and get active within the party, because freedom is worth fighting for in Canada too

I'm curious to hear your opinion on this party :)

Health Care, Education & Welfare
Respecting Provincial Jurisdiction The Constitution of Canada gives only the provincial Legislatures the power to make laws in respect of health care (http://www.freedomparty.ca/htm/en/constitution1867.htm#Legislatures), education (http://www.freedomparty.ca/htm/en/constitution1867.htm#Education), or welfare. The Freedom Party of Canada will respect the constitutional allocation of these legislative powers and will repeal federal laws that dictate provincial decision making in matters of health care, education, and welfare.

Firearms Registration

Firearms: Provincial Jurisdiction The Freedom Party of Canada takes the position that the constitution provides only the provincial Legislatures with the power to make laws concerning private property (http://www.freedomparty.ca/htm/en/constitution1867.htm#property) except as an aspect of sentencing in criminal matters, or in the course of enforcing personal liabilities owed to the federal government. Firearms owned by Canadians are private property. Accordingly, only the provincial Legislatures have the constitutional authority to make laws relating to the registration of firearms. The Freedom Party of Canada will repeal federal firearms registration legislation.

These 2 are pretty far off from US position. Firearms are written into our constitution and healthcare, despite all the written laws is illegal for the Federal Gov. to provide. These are 2 main points Dr. Paul is fighting for and against.

I haven't read the rest, but so far its doesn't look good.

That's my position on the matter. I don't want universal health care, but if New York wants is, that is fine by me. The second one is a touchy issue in Canada since I don't believe the right is mentioned in the Constitution.

Freedom implies self-rule. This is more of a... "Party of Smaller Government"

Based on the excerpt posted here, they take a "states' rights" position (Canadian province~US state, Alberta~Montana) against centralized federal authority.

They are making a "2nd Amendment" argument that the federal gov. cannot regulate firearms.

Then you only have to worry about what your state/province constitution/laws say about health or firearms.
