I was thinking about this the other day. I know it's not particularly a new line of thought...

But, how is it that politicians are widely believed to be dirty, politics widely believed to be a dirty business, and then these people are referred to by such things as "community leaders" once elected?

I can't really call them "public servants" because it's just not rooted in current reality. I often find myself calling them dirtbags, but that doesn't particularly reflect well on me in a room full of diverse people. :D

So, what can I/we call them that's somewhat real and also acceptable in mixed company? How do we reframe the thought process of those we're talking to by using different terms?

Jokes and serious thoughts welcome.

I don't really understand it either. Everyone jokes about how corrupt politicians are but yet they go vote for them year after year.
