From thetruthaboutminnesota.org (http://thetruthaboutminnesota.org/):

Minnesota Citizens Win BIG!
House Passes HF 1438 to Prohibit
Compliance With The REAL ID Act!

The Senate passed their version (SF 0984) of this prohibition in April 2007. The bill now goes to Governor Pawlenty for his signature. Though it is in our best interest to maintain our individual privacy in keeping with the protections of the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and Article I Section 10 of the Minnesota Constitution, there is no guarantee that Governor Pawlenty will sign it!

Let's make sure he does sign this bill to stop the Big Brother federal government from further invading our space and privacy. Join with us and show your support for this bill by sending an email to Governor Pawlenty (tim.pawlenty@state.mn.us) and following that up with a call to his office at:

Telephone: (651) 296-3391
Toll Free: (800) 657-3717

Support this bill prohibiting the REAL ID Act in Minnesota! It is BIG BROTHER intrusive, too expensive to comply with and will in NO way stop terrorism or illegal immigration!

PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL AND MAKE A CALL TO THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE TODAY!

Thank You!

Nice! What are the odds of Pawlenty signing it? I guess we'll find out if he's in the pocket of TPTB.

Not Montana, Minnesota.

Also, after searching it later on, it turns out Pawlenty vetoed it. Even though the MN legislature had enough votes to override the veto they chose not to. I'm not sure if they plan on reintroducing it this year or not.

I found the following at this link:

Real Nightmare In Your Pocket!
The REAL ID Act

The Federal Real ID Act requires that all of us get a new driver's license or a national identification card by December, 2009 (the new date after a recent rescheduling). The new license or identification card will cost about $200 and will take weeks to get. According to this federal law, we will need our license or ID card to board airplanes, travel across state lines, enter a federal building, open a bank account and more.

Our new license or ID card may contain an electronic chip, the RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) chip. This chip will enable the federal government to know everything about each of us: where we go, where we are, what we buy, what we eat, our health condition, what we read, and much more. If this law is not stopped, we won't be able to do anything without our "chip" - board a plane, get federal benefits, buy food, buy clothes, get gas, get health care, eat at restaurants, just about everything we do. In the future, we might be forced to implant this electronic ID chip in our body! We will lose our privacy to the federal "big brother. Already, much livestock is implanted with these chips (under NAIS) and is proving to cause serious health risks to the animals - such as the development of cancers.

The Federal National ID Card Lives on in Minnesota

Twice the Minnesota legislature rejected the federal Real ID Act by overwhelming numbers - the second time by more than enough votes to override a veto. Yet, in defiance of the will of the legislature, and the will of the people of Minnesota, Gov. Pawlenty vetoed the bills. Apparently, he has his eye on running for vice president and no longer cares for what is best for Minnesota.

Because of Gov. Pawlenty, the threat of the Federal Real ID Act lives on in Minnesota. In an executive order dated May 17, 2008, issued shortly after he vetoed the second rejection of the Real ID Act by the legislature, Gov. Pawlenty left open the possibility that he will order implementation of the Real ID Act after June 1, 2009. This executive order states in part:

"1. The Commissioner of Public Safety may not implement the federal REAL I.D. Act, before June, 2009, unless implementation is authorized by the Legislature."

In other parts of the executive order, the Commissioner of Public Safety is allowed to prepare for implementation of the Federal REAL ID Act.

Unfortunately, despite the work of Minnesota's Legislature, there still is a need for action. Pawlenty didn't get the message.

17 states rejected the Real ID Act. They are: Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada, Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Tennessee. 12 States are working on laws to reject the Real Id Act.

Three states, California, Wisconsin and North Dakota, passed a law that bans forced RFID implants.
