View Full Version : The nature of government
I've been thinking a lot lately about the philosophical nature of government.
At it's most pure sense, government can be thought of as some cavemen thuging up into a cave an saying "we're in charge now bitches. do somethin."
Unless the people are governed by consent.
Therefor, we're slaves already because we do not consent.
We are also not living in the United States of America because the laws governing that entity are not followed. We are American, but not under the Constitution. We are therefor under self-dictatorship, not self government of the willing.
We've conquered ourselves for someone elses empire. suck.

Pretty much true to sentiment.
The fundamental nature of government is destruction. It creates almost nothing, but destroys quite a lot. 200 million or more people in the last century were murdered by governmental decree. Entire cities were destroyed by governmental decree. Entire societies have been systematically debauched by decree (including our own).
It's the nature of socialism. Government is a form of socialism, by definition. I think the only real solution is agorism, if you can manage it (barring electing a slate of freedom lovers, but this proves difficult: government breeds government, not anti-government).
Leave the support of the State in every possible way:
1. Get back every cent you are forced to put in... in whatever way they'll give it to you. (Use food stamps for the amount you contribute if you can, for example). Get creative.
2. Do not contribute either moral sanction or fiscal support beyond what is mandated under punishment of imprisonment or death.
3. Always work to improve yourself and your family through knowledge, wisdom, and ethical action.
4. Be prepared to function effectively where the government fails to perform. If you don't sanction its actions, then don't expect things from it.
Many have said similar things: Gandhi, Jesus, Confucius, etc. etc.
"Be the change you wish to see in the world"
"Swear NO oath"
"To change the world, you must first change yourself"

Even the Constitution asserts (And even more so with how the Judicial Branch has interpreted it) that you swear allegiance to it as a governing force pre-birth.

You could perhaps interpret it that way, and I don't mind it. In fact, I've personally sworn an oath to the Constitution.
Jesus was referring to swearing no oath of allegiance to a person or crown (State). He followed his own advice when he rebuked Pilate's offer of Roman citizenship and safety.
An oath to an idea (individual freedom superior to all government) is something completely different and entirely OK.
EDIT: I will never again recite the pledge of allegiance, for instance.

These are not my words. I would properly attribute this--and put quote marks around it all--if my memory weren't failing me in these details. However, the gist of it I still remember:
The sole purpose of government is to protect children and preagnant women. Everything else is just window dressing.
Lots of window dressing these days...
