I wanted to pass along to all of you the following e-mail that B.J. sent out last night. Please check out the links, they go to videos.
Well, the excitement continues here in the Fourth District as the primary approaches. The campaign had a productive weekend between canvassing and appearing at the the state conventions for both the North Carolina College Republicans (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTy2JFtom1M) and the Federation of Young Republicans (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLvgfcWbv0s). These were both excellent events, with opportunities to meet party activists and new volunteers for the campaign.
Given the schedule and family sacrifices involved in campaigning, I often find it necessary to remind myself why I am called to seek this office. As you might imagine, there are aspects of politics that are exceedingly unpleasant -- from personal attacks to almost comical backroom antics, this is a field where some folks act based upon emotion and prejudice at the complete expense of honesty and reason.
Many of these attacks are based upon ignorance. Unfortunately, even within the Republican party, there are a few who do not understand the importance of a Constitutional federal government. As a result, our primary battle is educational.
For example, when I state that I oppose the federal "War on Drugs", does that mean I encourage drug abuse, or want my children to have easy access to dangerous and addictive substances? Of course not. But where in the Constitution does the federal government get the enumerated power to launch a federal "Drug War", and supersede state laws and regulations? Hint: It's not there. Anyone who believes otherwise should read the Constitution and Bill of Rights again, paying attention to the 10th Amendment. At least when we enacted alcohol prohibition, we had the intellectual honesty to amend the Constitution.
When I also state that I oppose the federal Department of Education, does that mean I oppose public schools? Of course not. Again, I simply recognize that the Constitution does not give Washington, DC any jurisdiction over education in Washington, NC.
So why am I running? Because we need to take our nation back. True conservatives agree that this is no time to send more money and power to Washington. It is time to restrain our federal government so that we can recover from its impossible financial burdens, before it is too late:

This journey will involve change. Big change. But it's necessary change, and it's imperative that we provide an option for real change, Constitutional change, that does not involve more power and control to federal bureaucracies.
We must again stand on principle, and make Washington focus on its primary, Constitutional responsibilities. If we are to prosper as a free nation, we must honor the rule of law, and respect the enumerated powers of our United States Constitution. That's change we can all embrace, and change that will respect the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all Americans.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support. As we prepare the get-out-the-vote efforts for the May 6th primary, I ask you to please make a donation (https://www.lawsonforcongress.com/donate/) to our campaign. Please help us reach the $100,000 mark this week.
