just got this from our university's president today
We have just confirmed that Senator Hillary Clinton will hold a town hall meeting at Drexel tomorrow, April 11, at 5 p.m. in the Great Court of the Main Building, 32nd and Chestnut Streets. On behalf of the University, it will be my great pleasure to welcome Senator Clinton. We look forward to the possibility of hosting similar events with Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain.
Senator Clinton is expected to be joined by Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter. The event will be open to the public, and members of the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions of Senator Clinton. Audience members will be admitted beginning at 3 p.m. via the Chestnut Street entrance to the Main Building, in order to accommodate security. To view a live Webcast of the event, visit http://www.drexel.edu.
So that the Secret Service can implement security measures, the Main Building will be closed from noon to 1:30 p.m. tomorrow. Classes in Main are unaffected. Employees working in Main will be required to vacate the building at noon and return at 1:30 p.m. through the Chestnut Street entrance. All other entrances to the Main Building will be closed until after the event.
As part of our efforts to promote civic engagement, Drexel made a commitment to immerse our students in the political process during the 2008 election cycle. Senator Clinton's visit is the latest demonstration of that commitment, along with last October's Democratic presidential candidates debate, the Philadelphia mayoral debate held here last May and the highly successful voter registration and issues education activities of our Drexel Votes 2008 initiative. We are proud to have a knowledgeable and engaged student body, and to participate in the 2008 presidential electoral process.
