The first ritual performed by tyrant priests during exorcisms is to deprive the internal demons of all material water. The minerals that make up water represent happiness and contentment after all while demons aren't happy unless they are made to be miserably responsible. Besides, by quenching their thirst, demons will just grow stronger even still by further seeking out sustinance for their souls. This would further lead to an undesirable healthy state devoid of all religion.
