View Full Version : (Negative) Activity on Ron Paul's Wikipedia Page

So, I visited Ron Paul's wikipedia page and noticed a massive list of endorsments removed- the long list of Economics proffesors in support of Ron Paul was trimmed to five.

I digged down a bit and found that the user Tdl1060 was responsible for these edits, his profile blatantly shows he's a Mitt Romney supporter as well. He's been pretty active on the Wikipedia election articles.

Does someone who is active in Wikipedia want to take a look at this? I'm only in Wikibooks.

Did the endorsements have citations?

Also, did it tip the balance too much toward the page being pro-Paul? Remember that Wikipedia has a Neutral Point-of-View policy.

Nope, they did not have citations. It would be good to cite them, the list of Economists was quite impressive. I don't think it was Pro-Paul, it was a list of known supporters, every canidate has them.

It's funny that Tdl1060 is a Romney support from Illinois...could it be Romney's Illinois chairman, state Sen. Dan Rutherford?

I don't know how or I would contact Wiki.

Does anyone here know how to do it? If another campaign is monkeying with his website that is awful.

These are the academics who need citations:
* I. Dean Ahmad, Ph.D.- Senior Lecturer in the Honors Program at the University of Maryland*
* Howard Baetjer, Ph.D. - Professor of Economics at Towson University*
* Jonathan Bean, Ph.D. - Professor of History at Southern Illinois University*
* David Beito, Ph.D. - Professor of History at the University of Alabama*
* Howard Blitz, Ph.D. - Professor of Economics and Human Resource Management at Northern Arizona University* and Arizona Western College*
* Nelson Borelli, M.D. - Professor of Medical Science and Behaviorial Psychology at Northwestern University*
* Mark Bradly, Ph.D. - Professor of Economics at Ferris State University*
* Eric Cooper, M.D. - Professor of Psychology at Iowa State University*
* Thomas DiLorenzo, Ph.D. - Professor of Economics at Loyala College in Maryland*
* Henry Demmert, Ph.D. - Associate Dean of the School of Business at Santa Clara University*
* Roger Garrison, Ph.D. - Professor of Economics at Auburn University* and author of Time and Money

* Jeffrey M. Herbener, Ph.D. Professor of Economics at Grove City College*
* Hans-Hermann Hoppe, Ph.D. - Professor of Economics at University of Nevada*
* Jason Jewell, Ph.D. - Professor of Humanities at Faulkner University*
* Kris N. Kirby, Ph.D. - Professor of Psychology at Williams College*

* Paul Levinson, Ph.D. - Professor of Media Studies at Fordham University*
* Roderick T. Long, Ph.D. - Professor of Philosophy at Auburn University*
* Franklin Lopez, Ph.D - Professor of Business, Economics and Finance at Tulane University*
* Deirdre McCloskey, Ph.D. - Professor of Economics, History, English, and Communication at the University of Illinois at Chicago*
* Steven Michels, Ph.D. - Professor of Political Science at Sacred Heart University*
* Rick Moscatello, Ph.D. - Professor of Mathematics at River Parishes Community College*
* Mark J. Perry, Ph.D. - Professor of Finance and Business Economics at the University of Michigan-Flint*
* Joseph Pomykala, Ph.D. - Professor of Economics at Towson University*
* Ivan Pongracic, Ph.D. - Professor of Economics at Hillsdale College*
* Ralph Raico, Ph.D. - Professor of History at Buffalo State College*
* George Reisman, Ph.D. - Professor of Economics at Pepperdine University*
* Murray Sabrin, Ph.D. - Professor of Finance at Ramapo College*
* Joseph T. Salerno, Ph.D. - Professor of Economics at Pace University*
* D. Eric Schansberg, Ph.D. - Professor of Economics at the University of Indiana at New Albany*
* Ken Schoolland, MSFS - Professor of Economics and Political Science at Hawaii Pacific University*
* Mark Thornton, Ph.D. - Former Professor of Economics at Auburn University*
* Wesley Wright, Ph.D. - Professor of Linguistics at Florida Atlantic University*

I don't know how that list was complied, but we do need some sort of citation for it- however, deleting those without a warning is a pretty low blow, and I'm pretty sure there was some bias in the decision to do so.

I guess we need to use google.... if someone wants to take S-Z, I'd appreciate it. Just put both men's name in quotation marks (the academic and Ron Paul), and then post the link here.

Read the discussion page, or the edit list and see if there is a reason for removal. Most likely lack of citations. If you find citations just add them back in with the citations. The beauty of Wikipedia is you don't need to contact anyone, you can just edit, as long as you can source it and it is phrased neutrally and is relevant, it should stay up.

The problem is, I don't know where to find the citations for those proffesors. I'm going to have to do a bit of googling, but if someone knows of some coalition of Economists which publicly endorsed Ron Paul anywhere, it would be helpful.

They are there for a reason. :(

I do a lot of editing on Wikipedia and know the policies. I highly suggest that we track down PROOF of those people supporting Dr. Paul. Otherwise, it is wrong to list them as supporters.

Yes, but Wikipedia shouldn't be posting rumors or hearsay, or even about economists that like or support RP but wouldn't vote for him. There is a lot on the discussion page on what constitutes and endorsement and how it should be properly cited. If you cannot cite it, don't add it. I'm sure there are tons of economists that subscribe to RP's economic policies. That is not the same as a public endorsement.

Howard Blitz - http://www.freedomsphoenix.com/Editorial-Page.htm?InfoNo=020932
David Beito - http://hnn.us/blogs/4/authors/16.html

I digged down a bit and found a couple. It's pretty hard to find a "I officially endorse... bla bla", but you kind of get the picture that these people are supporting Ron Paul- it's pretty hard to find proof of it though.
