Well, its one of those things that are pretty self-evident. Because its a HORRIBLE idea. But some how, some people I have recently come in contact with (college/university) think we need one world government, even having stated in the same sentence - they think the U.N is crap. (socialists I gather) But they just want to replace it, with something similar.

What exactly, are some solid arguments against One World government?
Any awesome sources somewhere..? Dunno why I am fairly ignorant on this - its just that, I've never had to deal with some people so braindead. Lol. Lil help? :D

gov't is the problem.

anarchy is the solution.

until people understand that, they'll continue to believe that some government (just not this government) somewhere is acting as a benevolent force "protecting the rights of the people" or some other such lie.

start w/ lysander spooner and move from there.

tell them to get involved w/ politics, look around and ask, "do i really want these people telling me what will and will not be?or anyone else for that matter?"

it's a type of person that wants to "be in charge."

People who believe in One World Govt blow my mind. I can't grasp that mentality. They also tend to hate Bush! If they don't like him as US President then how would they feel if he became King of the World? Don't they realize certain people will STILL have all the power in a one world govt? Do they really think that greedy, power hungry politicians will just stop vying for power and only good, wholesome fair minded people will rule the world?

True true.. This chick though, used Global Anarchy - as a reason for one world government though.. i.e with arms control, there would be less fighting under one world government.. (Oh my.. My mind just ceases to function at this level of thinking, its like - Blue screen of Death)

What was the great work/s of spooner, that I should look at / purchase? Rp quoted him, so thats good enough for me. Lol.

Yea, you are right. The guy who hates Bush the most in the whole room, seems to want it the most! Thats a good angle though, I could use. With Socratic method to blow him out of the water.

So you hate the Bush Administration/US right?
-> YES!
Whats stopping him or another Hitler from coming to power?
-> {mind explodes} (more likely though, cognitive dissonance party time!)

Life is best maintained, decided apon, and controlled at local levels. "Tribes" should set their own rules of society...

Imagine one world government, and the enforcing of culture on a global scale, no more animal sacrafice for some tribes in africa, no more marry your daughter off, as she has the choice.

The single biggest reason against one world government is that Difference is a good thing, people enjoy their own way of life, and a OWG would generize everything. Diversity is great.

We need to return to the tribe mentatlity, what's good for your town, may not be good for mine. Government is OK, as long as you have access to the people who make those decisions.

Washington is so far removed from the people, that talking to your leaders are impossible. However if your "tribe" leader lived in your town, you could go talk to them.

All these cascading laws from the federal branch are impossible to discuss, and argue against, now imagine if a OWG takes over.

How many layers and miles would be between you and the people running your life? How would you voice a disagreement? Who would care about you?

You want to feel even more like just a number in a herd... put a one world government into place and you are just another livestock in place to support the livelihood of others...

Governments can become corrupt and totalitarian. In that case you might have the possibility to leave for another country with a better government. That's pretty hard when the world government is corrupt as long as space travelling is so fucking expensive. Plus, do you really want to be ruled by a China-India majority.

Show me 1 country who in the absence of power, or the over throw of it's existing governing body who has created a better place and system of governing for it's people?

We in America, and our founding fathers are about the ONLY one, where a new country was created to the betterment of the people.

Hitler, Russia, Rome, Attila the Hun, the list goes on. The prescendant of government is to oppress more, or gain more power for simply another sect of people. Why would a new change in governing on a global scale be any different?

"Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men." -- Lord Acton

"The danger is not that a particular class is unfit to govern. Every class is unfit to govern." -- Lord Acton

Here are 2 reasons:

"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men." Lord Acton,1887

"Unlimited power is apt to corrupt the minds of those who possess it" William Pitt the Younger, 1770

Ask the citizens of Kosovo or Serbia how they liked being under a bigger government. Ask the citizens of Ireland if they would be willing to submit to English rule, or the citizens of South Korea to submit to North Korean rule.

Rather than ONE government, for ALL the people, we need ALL people to control ONE government, their own.

I think it's probably inevitable eventually.

Personally, I'd welcome a world government if it was based on the principles and ideals of the founders of the US. A government explicitly limited in its role to defending the liberty of its citizens.

Of course that doesn't seem very likely these days with our Constitution held in such low regard by basically everyone who doesn't visit this forum.

Two immediate protests come to mind for me:

1. It would mean far less (more horrible) representation for people all across the globe. And I suspect far less accountability and a greater potential for corruption. These are self-evident truths that surely anyone can realize right? It seems so f**king obvious to me, rolling the dice hoping for a benevolent rulership is just going to be an epic failure.

2. Those pushing the hardest for a one world government also happen to be the most corrupt amongst us.

Do people not realize that increasing globalism is a direct threat to our Constitution, civil liberties, individual sovereignty, limited government, and basically everything that our cherished heritage stands for?
