Right now we've raised about $6,500 to spend airing The High Tide (http://hightidepromo.com/) in Philly. Donate here (http://alcpac.chipin.com/the-high-tide-airtime) to bump up our total. Here are the rates (http://www.alcpac.com/docs/Comcast_Rates_2.7.08_philly.xls) & the coverage map (http://www.alcpac.com/docs/Comcast_interconnect.pdf) (1.8 million homes).

Here's what I put together today. (Excel file here (http://www.alcpac.com/docs/pa_ad_buy.xls)) These would be spread out over April 16-22nd. (22nd is the PA election)

The prime time 7p-12am slot is the most expensive. Input/comments/suggestions appreciated.

great job, wish this was done about 5 months ago by the grassroots. We could have used oh I don't know...say 6 million or so for commercials all over the early primaries.

Yes 1 run. When you're going into 1.8 million homes in a large metropolitan area it becomes very expensive. If you check out the rate card you'll see just how ridiculous it can get. $2200 for 1 run on Faux prime time.......and we won't be doing any of those with our budget.

This is a closed primary. What does the target audience watch in Penn?

History channel and Sci-Fi PT is a must. Nice job on the list.

Has anybody been to Daily Paul lately? I saw couple comments like "I'd donate if I knew what their goal was." I think if you let people know it's crunch time, they might respond.

Well, it's not that important, but MTV probably does have a different audience than the other channels you selected, granted most are younger and don't/can't vote.

I wonder what would have happened if grassroots had gathered up about 5 million and dumped it into TV ads in Iowa and NH.. hmm.. we'll never know. .... but.. . if we gather up a big wad of cash and air this ad in PA we'll know.

yes.. I don't watch most of the channels you've picked, so if I were in Philly I probably wouldn't see the ad. And yes, as you get more money you can spread the ad around to different channels and times.

Also, can you split the market up? I looked into ads in Charlotte and I found that I could totally saturate several smaller counties for $5k a week but the same $5k would only last a couple of days of sparse coverage for the entire region (and probably not be very effective). I thought it might be interesting to saturate a few counties with ads and get people to canvas those counties and see what happens.

Ditch the ads on MTV..

Yes these are the political rates, and there is no discount available to us. If the official campaign had bought spots, they get pretty much a 40% discount since it's the candidate buying the time. But since we're a PAC, no discount. :(

I'm slightly disappointed to not see it air at least a few times on the history channel.

We seem to be targeting the youth vote, and while that is a good thing for the future....it doesn't do us much good right now. People who watch the history channel tend to be slightly older and more patriotic.....which is perfect.

one ad view isn't going to have much effect.. "A rule of thumb is that it takes at least five to seven repetitions of a spot for a viewer to recall the message (http://tv-advertising.suite101.com/article.cfm/ratings_and_more_basic_tv_ad_terms)"

you're much better off finding a slot where you can run it 10 times at $220 rather than blowing the $2200 on one view.

May I suggest Comedy Central at 10:30 PM on THursday? There's an animated program titled "Lil' Bush" that plays well on the administration's stupidity. The "High Tide" animation runs in the same vein of anti-Bush "strategery" and is also an animation but is much more sophisticated. (Subliminal message?)

Airing the spot then may resonate with disenfranshised Reps and Dems who hate Bush. BTW, the show cracks me up.

This is all assuming the price is affordable.

I extended the ChipIn through the weekend. Monday is pretty much the last day for donations to count for this ad buy. I'm going out of town on Tuesday for 15 days, but am considering starting another ChipIn for an Indiana buy that can build donations while I'm gone. Their primary the next one after PA on May 6th, and although I haven't checked yet, I assume midwest Indiana will be much cheaper than Philly.

Any chance of seeing a ChipIn for North Carolina anytime soon? Charlotte is a good spot as someone already mentioned. Its grown enough to be considered a decent sized city without being so big that the prices would be as high.

My only suggestions are that you stick with SciFi, MTv and maybe the Comedy Channel.

45 year old demographic speaking - I watch none of those channels and I think the ad is fantastic.

I hate Lifetime but my age group watches it.

Ok, back to drooling in the corner...(just kidding).

NC's the same day as Indiana, May 6th. These are the next 2 primaries after PA. I think we should pick 1 and focus on that. I'm all down to do either one.

Does anyone know the breakdown of IN and NC? Open/closed primaries, delegate count, delegates bound/unbound, etc? We should take all that into account when deciding.

In addition to Lifetime, the 45 and over demographic can be reached on the Hallmark Channel, some religious channels, Geographic, public, and History channels.

Just a suggestion.

Looking at the buys. I would have dropped the $200 scifi and bought 10 CNNHealine news for $20 each. Also look at the 6am to 9am CBNC, people watch the premarket news before they go to work. Other than that great job, I see someone dropped a couple hundred today.

Almost up to $8,000! Monday is the last day to donate to this, so if you haven't yet, please consider doing so.

Every additional $100 can buy us a couple more spots.

and if you get a little more, maybe:

ESPN

M-Fr 9a-4p $180

Bump for last-minute support and donations.

Seen the Subway commercial? Repetition is key! Go for the middle-cost commercials that play at regular hours on ...decent... stations.

+1 ! And people are always channel surfing these days. Nobody just stays on one channel during commercials. The more channels you can spread out over, the better, especially considering some of those great prices.

And I agree with the other post about switching 1 sci-fi to 10 CNN Headline News.

Just like investing - diversify.

I think this is great that you and others are doing this for such a fantastic commercial. Kudos to all. I'm off to donate now. :D

The current ChipIn is for Philadelphia only. We'd need many 100s of thousands (if not many millions) for nation-wide.

I'm gonna start a new ChipIn for North Carolina and/or Indiana, as they are the next states to vote post-PA. NC & Indiana are on 5/6. Not sure how much we can raise but might as well give it a shot.

When you do that next chipin, ask for people to put their state preference in their comments, that way you can see what your donors think.... so if you don't get enough funds to saturate both states, you can see what your donors think.

I'd weigh their votes on their percentage of money donated.
like- for every 5 dollars you get a vote on which state it is played in...on the chance that not enough funds are raised for both.

A lot of people watch primetime that never watch at any other time. So, you might want to cut three $60 headline news and buy two primetime $75 HDLN, and you might want to cut three CNBC $180's and buy one primetime $400 CNBC.

I think you guys put together an awesome schedule.
I am hoping for terrible weather and huge market news the week of April 16 to 22.
Hopefully the DailyShow and Colbert are new and not repeats.
I do kind of agree with the primetime CNNHealine News. Glen Beck is on that channel.

i see that they give you time ranges which I would assume is just for pricing purposes, but do they tell you exactly what time (or at least the hour) that the spot will be played? or do we wait in front of the TV for 3-6 hours? haha

For example, if we have purchased a spot on Headline News between 7p-12a there may be a big difference in the audience and reach between it showing at 7:30pm versus 11:30pm.

Yeah you buy the time range and basically take what they give you. I get an affidavit in the mail afterward showing the exact times they aired.
