Lenders who took advantage of people should be held accountable, Sen. John McCain told Good Morning America this morning, but he's not sure exactly how.

lol. At the least, it should be by not giving them money from the treasury.

Geez, McCain, what about *NOT* bailing them out?

Did he flunk second grade or what? They are predatory lenders *only* because they're guaranteed by the gubermint.

I've shown it before and I'll show it again.

acptulsa, and out of curiousity, what was it he figured out? :) (e.g. was it blame the gov't or something else)

Not blame the government, but subpoena and sue the lender. Worked, too. Generally will, if there's real shenanigans going on and not just someone whining that they didn't read their contract or can't afford their McMansion.

Fair enough. I don't know enough whether there were real shenanigans going on within the banking system beyond government's interference so that could very well be part of the problem. With Bear Sterns, I think we all know where to place the blame at. ;)

(Tangentially, I once read that it is actually illegal for someone to present you with a contract, and telling you don't have to worry about it, just sign the dotted line; it's all standard procerdure and boring legal stuff)

Bound to be one or two somewhere or another. Don't think we have one here. My response if they push that is to walk out without signing a thing. If they summarize it trying to rush me, I just keep reading. When I'm through, I tell them how accurate their summary was.

Mark my words, this lender thing has opened up the door for thousands of lawsuits... give it time.
