"(CNN) -- Sen. Bill Nelson on Thursday proposed an overhaul of U.S. presidential election laws, saying the dispute over delegates in Florida and Michigan has exposed a flawed nominating system.

In a speech on the floor of the Florida state Senate Thursday, Nelson said he formally will introduce legislation that will attempt to fix many of the problems exposed by this cycle's round of presidential primaries, adding that the "time for reform is now."

Basically, he wants to do the following:
-Install regional primaries, as opposed to early state primaries
-Switch to the popular vote
-Ban voting machines that do not leave a paper trail.

and some other stuff.

What do y'all think? I'm not sure I'm wild about the popular vote, myself.

I like the idea of regional voting, but the current plan has Iowa and New Hampshire going first, which I am fine with. The Feds really can't do anything about the nominating process of parties anyway because they are private organization.

Oh, and as far as the Popular vote, it would require a constitutional amendment, and the Southern states, and the Midwestern states will stand in the way of that taking place, making many more than 13 rejecting the amendment.
