There is nothing unusual about it. This is what happens during a war.....

Are where any confirmation in US papers?

US media will report about it as soon as Muqtada al-Sadr will post videos or photos on his site.....

Actually Basra is occupied by the British army..... so they probably ment to say British-Iraqi forces....

There was a report on CNN and MSNBC yesterday about it. But they said that militia took over Basra and that the Brits were sitting inside their bases.....
They also showed some airplane faaaaaar in the sky and said that that was a British warplane which "monitors the situation".

That British warplane looked like B-52 bomber actually.....

Iraq is about to get a lot worse. Probably the worst of the fighting is yet to come. Seeing as the Admiral in charge of forces in the middle east just stepped down (as he said he would if Bush decided to attack Iran), we could very likely be bombing Iran within the month.

At the very least we are looking at true civil war in Iraq, not merely ethnic cleansing as we've seen up until this point. True civil war means sides (Iran - Shia [Badr, Sadr, Malaki] - Sunni - US) and actual marching armies with military objectives beyond maintaining an occupation.

How these sides will align to fight it out, who knows. I mean obviously Iran and the Badr brigade are aligned. Malaki and the US are aligned for now. Al Sadr is in the middle, fighting off both those first two. And the Sunnis could really attack any of the three if they decide to. It's a complete cluster-f@ck.

update:

From the blog

"As for the situation in Iraq, it is clearly getting very serious, one Iraqi blogger talks of the situation feeling like just after the Samarra mosque attack. These US soldiers have been captured (unconfirmed) but lots of Iraqi Army soldiers have surrendered (various sources) and I even hear talk that they have captured Iraqi Army APC's and are using them against the attacking forces of SCIRI and Dawa.
Further, the US has surrounded Sadr City and fighting has spread to north Baghdad, Hilla, Kut, and smaller places. There are curfews no in place in 6 of 18 provinces and that Maliki has given the Jaish al Mehdi 72 hours to surrender or face being "wiped out" as an Iraqi general so quantly put it."
-----------
In other words, a whole world of shit has just erupted again in Iraq and none of the news channels have it as top story.

Yeah. The Mehdi Army is not going to just surrender, lol. It's on.

The news channels will not begin covering it until it's completely undeniable, they would rather stick to the "surge is working" thing, they enjoyed that fantasy storyline. But even after they begin covering it, it will be dripping with propaganda (Sadr and the Mehdi army is being funded by Iran, I bet they will say... they will focus incessantly on the Iranian connection and ignore all other narratives in the run-up to war with Iran).

I am glad you found this stuff, Kimo, keep us updated! We obviously can't rely on our mainstream media to do it.

US to Iran: Help clean up Iraq mess
Wed, 26 Mar 2008 23:01:56

Major General Kevin Bergner
US military spokesman says Washington would love to see Iran fulfill its commitments to help improve security and stability in Basra.

"There is no question that the government of Iran has significant influence in Basra, in the province and in southeastern Iraq in general," military spokesman Major General Kevin Bergner told a press conference in Baghdad.

Bergner demanded the Islamic Republic help 'reduce the activities of those operating outside the law' in Basra.

Washington has repeatedly claimed that Iran is supporting Iraq's insurgency; however, Tehran has categorically dismissed such allegations, saying that a secure Iraq is to the benefit of the Islamic Republic.

It looks like it got through the walls and all major MSM today have stories on frontpages.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7316056.stm
etc etc..

P.S. I cannīt find any updates on 17 American soldiers story.
I hope that this was a bogus story, so media should give more attention on, what is going on in Iraq now.
