Hello Freedomphiles! Let’s start off today’s Roundup with news of the Missouri Caucus Coup, which I have been reporting about for over a week now. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram has picked up (http://www.star-telegram.com/elections/story/544045.html)this story now, too:
Usually attended only by apparatchiks, the caucuses help set the party platform and deal with rules issues. The stuff most folks ignore. Not the Paulistas, who swarmed meetings in St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield and elsewhere and, as the St. Louis Post-Dispatch put it, "snagged roughly a third of the 2,137 state Republican delegates."
All of which would be yawn-inducing except that, "Those delegates will determine the state GOP platform this spring and help select the presidential delegates to the national Republican presidential convention in St. Paul in September."
Also in the caucuses, the Paulistas "won approval for some of their man’s key positions, including resolutions for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, and against the federal Patriot Act and warrantless wiretaps."
The biggest hit: A resolution to be taken up at the state party meeting in the spring to repeal the rule that all of Missouri’s 58 delegates go to the primary winner, McCain.
I only wish they had mentioned the troubles that the Ron Paul campaign has been getting in trying to get the final numbers from the MO Republican Party.

Well, perhaps interventionism is so deeply engrained in the U.S. governing elite and its media acolytes that the issue cannot be taken on whole. It is, after all, a broad and multifaceted topic; raising opposition to it as a whole allows men like Il Duce Giuliani to avoid specifics and assail non-interventionists as appeasers and blame-America-firsters. Perhaps, the best non-interventionists can do in this presidential cycle is to ask a limited number of specific questions which, if answered honestly, would show Americans how poorly their interventionist leaders are protecting them and how the defense of America is not a high priority for Obama, McCain, and Clinton, despite their rhetoric.
There are many questions to be asked of Senators Obama, McCain, and Clinton; Dr. Paul has asked them continually, but the media for the most part refuses to ask any. As long as the media – left, center, and right – neglect their duty to ask pointedly specific foreign-policy questions, Dr. Paul’s is a lone voice of sanity. Obama, McCain, and Clinton are all status-quo interventionists. They all helped light the fuse for a future Balkans War by supporting Kosovo’s independence, and Obama’s recent pro-Israel turn means he, like the other two, will stay in Iraq. The candidates’ call for health care, job creation, tax cuts, and other domestic initiatives is empty talk; intervention’s past, present, and future costs precludes each. The candidates know this, but will remain silent until the inauguration unless the media step up to the plate – as Dr. Paul has – to ask the questions that need answering.

In the recent movie, Charlie Wilson’s War, Congressman Charlie Wilson is given credit for being the main contributor in ending the Cold War. The movie suggests by spending billions of dollars to aid Afghanistan against the Soviet Union it ultimately caused the Soviet Union to collapse. I’m not sure how accurate that really is. It seems that the Soviet Union was headed for collapse due to their flawed economic system anyway. Their attempt to take over Afghanistan being thwarted certainly pushed them more towards their already inevitable collapse, but it should not be considered the main reason.
Ron Paul preaches the foreign policy ideology of Thomas Jefferson and George Washington in an age where doing so is quite unpopular. Neither the Democrats or Republicans are willing to keep the over-reaching US hands overseas to ourselves. Charlie Wilson seemed to possess this trait as well. The Cold War then is equivalent to the War on Terror today. How ironic it is that if it weren’t for Charlie Wilson’s interventions in Afghanistan in the 1980’s the War on Terror may not even exist today. At least not in its current form.
ConnieTalk has ended (http://www.connietalk.com/nbc_boycott_ends_032208.html)its boycott of NBC. Why?
Ron Paul was actually interviewed on CNBC (same parent company) this week. On Kudlow & Company March 20th, Michelle Caruso-Cabrera filled in on "Right on America" for Larry Kudlow, who had the night off. And she interviewed Congressman Ron Paul on whether we should abolish the Federal Reserve and what would happen if our currency returned to the gold standard: for 6 minutes and 26 seconds.
Caruso-Cabrera said, "Make the case." And turned the mike over to Paul and he was allowed to speak without an unbalanced timer. This may be the first time Paul has been granted by a network a glimpse of the media coverage other candidates have snatched up all year.
"The first reason is, it’s not authorized in the Constitution, so it’s an illegal institution," Paul began. "And the second reason: it’s an immoral institution, because we have delivered to a secretive body the privilege of creating money out of thin air - if you or I did it, we’d be called counterfeiters, so why have we legalized counterfeiting?"
"But the economic reasons are overwhelming: the Federal Reserve is the creature that destroys value...This station talks about free market capitalism; and you can’t have free market capitalism if you have a secret bank creating money and credit out of thin air - they become the central planners, they decide what interest rates should be, what the supply of money should be..."
...Not only did CNBC’s Kudlow & Company allow Paul to speak, but they actually provided a Free Market expert that agreed with him. I nearly fainted.

My dad would have loved it; it’s The Conscience of a Conservative for the 21st century."

There is also a call, from both major parties, to finally end any remnant of the carefully developed election scheme found within the Constitution. The founders developed a Federalist Republic with elections that were designed to protect the minority from the majority in an effort to avoid the pitfalls of pure democracy. Already crippled with the 17th Amendment, now direct democratic elections of the Presidency is also once again being promoted. Combined the changes will finally morph the United States from the Federalist Republic experiment into a Democratic Socialized government. The majority will rule while the minority voice will be silenced and the mob rule Jefferson spoke of will reach fruition. This is in direct violation of the oath of office.
While this is at the core of change the numbers of voters for the Democratic proposals is reaching record levels in every primary contest. Those few voices supporting the Constitution were either quickly forced from the race or, in the case of Dr. Paul, received no support from their party and a small percentage of actual voter support. It would appear the majority in the United States is ready to abandon the experiment and forever alter our Constitution. No outside force is attacking us and forcing this change upon us, it is coming from the cheering crowds shouting in unison such slogans as "Yes We Can!" So I ask again, Dr. Paul and those that support his message, with so many of our fellow citizens supporting these changes are we wrong?
The short answer? No. Top-diamond libertarian AJ Antimony writes (http://www.nolanchart.com/article3259.html) also on The Nolan Chart, urging Ron Paul supporters to be patient:
These supporters should instead do the smart thing and continue supporting Dr. Paul’s campaign for the Republican nomination. Yes, the odds are extremely against him, but you shouldn’t care about the odds. You should care about what passionate Republicans could do on the convention floor. Personally, I’d find it hilarious if pro-war McCain was nominated by the Republican Party whose platform, determined by Ron Paul supporters, was centered on withdrawing troops from Iraq and hundreds of other US military bases around the world.
Therefore, because a Republican nominee is not actually determined until September, I urge all Ron Paul supporters to do the smart thing and work to help Dr. Paul’s Republican presidential run. When the convention finally comes and Ron Paul walks out without the party’s nomination then it would be the most appropriate time to talk about an independent run. But again, until that time comes, third party/independent talk is silly and quite disrespectful not only to Congressman Paul, but to his supporters as well. Put off this discussion until post-convention and help the Ron Paul Republicans, and the Revolution, continue.

Ron Paul Campaign spokesman Jesse Benton confirmed on Friday, Mar. 7 that Congressman Ron Paul recognized that he would not be the GOP nominee. The "...campaign," he said, "is winding down. Dr. Paul acknowledges that he will not be the nominee but will continue to travel to address supporters and encourage grassroots activism to influence the process and return the Republican Party to its traditions of limited government and personal freedom." Yet, the Texas Congressman is still campaigning in the hopes of collecting more delegates than the 45 he currently controls, believing the more delegates he secures before the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis the better chance he has of getting a primetime slot for speechmaking at the Convention on Labor Day.
In a CNN a.m. interview on American Morning, Dr. Paul admitted his chance of getting the nomination were gone. What he is attempting to do now, he said, was put his campaign in a position to participate in writing the party platform and set the direction of the Republican Party in the future. Dr. Paul also noted that he would "...not likely support John McCain unless [McCain] changes his views—particularly on foreign policy and the war in Iraq."
