I was floored when I read this article:

This is the first time I have seen the word "extremist" used instead of "terrorist" to refer to Sept. 11. Has the media finally decided to revolt against George Bush's control of the rhetoric used today?

i think it's more like moving lockstep.

because consider the difference in connotation between extremist and terrorist.
all sorts of americans are considered extremists for one reason or another.
it could be an issue of political or religious 'extreme' ideals. and like 'terrorist,' it will be another poorly defined word
that is used to encompass a much larger sphere of individuals than would ever pose a realistic threat to anyone...

then we can put them in prison.

all the media has to do is chant the new mantra... war against extremism
and we could all be locked up after congress is 'pushed,' 'pressured' and
cajoled into passing some other law they didn't read.

Agreed,
extremist and terrorist labels are dependent on point of view...which side you are on.
also remember that all over there, not on our side, Taliban, Fedeyene, Republican Guard, were all called terrorist, now called 'insurgent'.
The 'War on terror' is very vague, but the War on the 'Taliban" or whomever would be clearly defined.
