If you want multiple webcams in one confrence, there's some websites for that. 1 on 1 I reccomend Skype, or Ekiga for Linux same as thechitowncubs said

I'm a mac user & use iChat. You do need to have a .mac account which costs $100 per year but I love iChat. I can have a video chat with up to 3 people simultaneously or audio chats with 10 people. Also, if I want to send someone a jpeg of movie file, I literally drag the file onto the video & it will save the file on their desktop. I think the newest version of iChat allows you to watch a movie file or photo slideshow together. I also think that the audio & video quality is better than skype.
