There must be a reason. I sent an email to info@crp.org.

Where does opensecrets get its database?

It was all there as of yesterday. Fortunately, I have everything related to campaign expenses all printed off.

i mean, Ron Paul is listed as "Candidates who have dropped out of the race"

which is wrong and irresponsible for the Center for Responsive Politics

so please email info@crp.org and ask what's the point giving money to opensecrets when they are not responsible to check the facts about candidates dropping out. Ron Paul DID NOT drop out.

RIGHT! I saw that. However, you can blame that on Kent Snyder. He has done nothing ever to counter that whenever/wherever it has appeared. Unbelievable, but true!

That's no excuse when Dr Paul himself went on several news outlets to state thet he's still in the race. Investigative and inside knowledge journalism is touted on sites like this, when they fail to use facts known by the general public, how credible are the facts they "uncover"?

There are two types of candidates who go on through the convention- the eventual nominee and gadflies. They view Ron Paul as a gadfly who hasn't won anything so they've decided to take him down. I can understand why. John McCain is the nominee of the Republican Party. I wish they'd keep him up, but I understand why they took him down.

here is the answer I received

Dear Mr.,
While we appreciate your enthusiasm for your candidate, the Center for
Responsive Politics made the decision to remove Rep. Paul from our list
of active presidential candidates on OpenSecrets.org after carefully
reviewing the congressman's own words and actions.

In his March 6 video message to supporters, Congressman Paul does not
explicitly say "I'm dropping out," but his remarks sounded remarkably
like those parting words of every other Republican and Democratic
candidate who has ended, suspended or otherwise ceased actively
campaigning for president in 2008. "Though victory in the conventional
political sense is not available in the presidential race, many
victories have been achieved due to your hard work and enthusiasm" –
what Rep. Paul said – is the same central message we've heard this year
from the many other candidates who were once in this race: I may not
have won, but this campaign achieved something and will continue—just
not as a presidential campaign this year. For instance, Mitt Romney's
campaign announced in February that he was "suspending" his campaign for
the Republican nomination, not "ending" it, so we moved him shortly
thereafter to the list of inactive candidates.

Secondly, Rep. Paul's focus in the last month or so on his
congressional primary in Texas, followed by his resounding win there,
indicated to us that he sees himself as a candidate for re-election to
the House of Representatives, not as a candidate for president.
OpenSecrets.org does list him as an active candidate in the Texas-14
race <http://www.opensecrets.org/races/summary.asp?id=TX14&cycle=2008>,
and we will continue to do so.

Thirdly, once John McCain secured enough delegates last week to become
the Republican Party's presidential nominee, we felt comfortable moving
Rep. Paul to the list of inactive candidates following his March 6 video
message, along with other candidates who have come up short in the
delegate race and delivered similar valedictions. Republican Alan Keyes
remains on our list, along with Mike Gravel on the Democratic roster of
candidates, pending an announcement from the candidate similar to what
we've heard from Rep. Paul and others.

That a candidate remains on the primary ballot in some states is not
sufficient reason to continue including him among active candidates, in
the Center's view. Many of the other candidates who have dropped out
remain on ballots for which they qualified long ago.

Furthermore, that the candidate's supporters say he is a candidate, or
want him to remain a candidate, is not sufficient reason for us to
continue including him among active candidates. We interpret the
candidate's own statements when making our decisions.

In addition to monitoring Rep. Paul's continued fundraising for his
House re-election race, we will continue to process and analyze his
presidential campaign finance reports
<http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/summary.asp?id=N00005906&cycle=2008>,
just as we will continue to process the data for the other candidates
who were once actively campaigning for president.

Should Rep. Paul or one of his aides wish to make the case that he is
still actively running for president, please invite them to contact the
Center to discuss this.

Thanks for your inquiry, and for using OpenSecrets.org.

Is there anyone left at the RP campaign HQ to respond to that response?

Sandra

I've emailed them already, but if they are made to realize that if they make their opinion trump facts, then they appear fringe and loopy. No credibility, more like an activist statement on their part

Did Ron Paul state several days later on one of the news shows that he was still in the race...perhaps someone can find and email that link to the site to show he in fact said he is still in the race. It is possible they did not see that follow up to his video from March 6th.

AMEN!

There's a big difference between someone running a campaign that can be trusted and someone competent at running a US presidental campaign.

It's already known among 1,000's of RP supporters that, Kent Snyder is only a TRUSTED manager... NOT a Presidential Campaign Manager. Yeah, Dropping the Ball would be putting it mildly on situational examples, like opensecrets.org.

I just called and spoke to "Julie", who seemed rather nervous and anxious to get off the phone. My conversation went basically as follows:

Julie: Hello, this is Julie

Me: Hi, Julie. I was just looked at the opensecrets.org site under the "Race For The Whitehouse" section and I noticed that Ron Paul is listed as having dropped out of the race. He is still in the race.

Julie: Ummm, well, ummm, I can't really comment on behalf of the organization about why he's not on there. If you give me your e-mail I can send you a statement explaining why he's not on there.

Me: You can't just tell me?

Julie: Ummm.... well I can send you the statement if you'd like to read it.

Me: Okay, yeah (gave her my e-mail). Look, I don't know what this e-mail is going to say, but the fact of the matter is that he isn't just omitted, he is listed as a "candidate who has dropped out of the race", which is a blatant falsehood.

Julie: Ummmm, I'll just send you this statement explaining why he is in that category.

Me: So it WAS a conscious decision then? Not a mistake -- someone decided to tell your readers that has dropped out?

Julie: Yes.

Me: Okay, well I'm curious to see why, because there is no justification for doing that.
