View Full Version : A jump-start for me?

Being an ultra-low-fixed-income individual, I was referred to a wonderful organization for some help. What's going on is my town will have the electric rate increased by at least 70% as of April 1 - see these stories for verification:

http://www.ky3.com/news/local/16090797.html

http://www.douglascountyherald.com/testing/nm/publish/news_1039.html

To help offset the difficulty of this increase, I am having the electric water heater replaced with one that uses gas. I already replaced the stove last year, and all the lights have been switched over to compact flourescents.

The last remaining energy hog in my home is the refrigerator. It's a 1989 model that uses more than twice as much power as a new fridge the same size. It's in its death throes anyway.

So this organization I mentioned, quite a unique charitable group where the poor help the poor, has accepted my request for help, and my grant application is waiting to be "voted up".

I'm asking folks here to help get my app. moving. All you need to do is visit the website (http://www.modestneeds.org/features/ledger/) and find Request #75319 (right now it is on the first page of listings because it is new), click the button on the right side where it says "Learn More or Invest Points (http://www.modestneeds.org/features/ledger/viewapp.asp?mode=upd&rp=l&id=75319&pageno=1&monthno=30&yearno=0)".

You get 'Points' by donating to the organization. The minimum is only $5, and a few small donations is all it will take to start it progressing. The good news is that a major donor provides matching funds, so every 5 points becomes 10!

This is a four-star charity as rated by Charity Navigator (http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=10708). I can attest to their efficacy. The entire process is done online and quickly. If I can attract a few donors, I could have a new fridge before the rate increase takes effect.

From one Ron Paul supporter to another, I am being crushed by the inflation, and I am alone in this world. Thanks in advance for all consideration.

Thanks Molly, and WOW, my grant application has been 79% funded in just 24 hours! I wonder if there's one angel on this forum or an abundance of them. Either way, I am bowled over by the generosity!!

The lady who hosts our local meetup group meetings - at her store after hours - was just on the news talking about the electric rate increase - which they are now saying will be 90%! A close friend also appeared on the footage shot in the store (she's behind the counter). Check it out (http://ozarksfirst.com/media_player.php?media_id=31313)!!

I was hoping they'd show the huge Ron Paul sign on the side of the store, but it was all indoors.

My grant application has been stuck in the #1 position on ModestNeeds.org (http://www.modestneeds.org) for a whole day. Oh, the tension!

I shared the Modest Needs opportunity with a fellow Ron Paul supporter in Colorado, a guy I've known since 1989. He also lives on a small fixed income and is off the grid out in the country, in a small trailer. Here's a link to his request, in case anyone would like to chip in $5 or so for him: Battery To Run My Home (http://www.modestneeds.org/features/ledger/viewapp.asp?mode=upd&rp=l&id=76106)

And here's a pic of his place:

What? Which place is his home? The tent on the right? The car? The trailer on the left? Wow.

Perhaps he should consider asking for a solar panel in addition to the battery.

The trailer is on the left side of the picture, toward the back. You can see his solar panels on top of it.

I'll see if I can't help him out a bit....thanks.
